Bjork appeared as Space Ghost's wife, which was hilarious. She also provided some strange vocal meanderings which went over the opening credits of the episode. All very good stuff. But the real reason I'm chiming in is..... > I'm finding that most of the TV I watch lately is animated ... "Invader > Zim" rules! ;> You're darn tootin' it rules!!! **Comic geek cowl and cape on......** Invader Zim was created by comic book writer and artist Jhonen Vasquez. Those of you who have stopped by comic book stores occasionally may have heard of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee, Filler Bunny, and I Feel Sick. He's mainly held to blame for those as well. As a fan of his work I was afraid of how badly his humor would translate to the kid-friendly environment of Nickelodeon. We all remember how they eviscerated Ren and Stimpy. But I needn't have worried. No profanity. No gore. But all the twisted, wierd humor you can carry home with you in a burlap sack. Run don't walk to your sets to watch this show! Fridays at 9pm ET/8pm CT. And for those of you who are wondering how it's doing.....it got picked up for another season with 20 more episodes on the way! Hooray! That was a beautiful song. The harp was lovely. And I think > >those were melodeons in the plexiglass box. The choral group behind >her >made me wonder if native Indian tribes actually live on Iceland. >I would >expect the Vikings to have wiped out any other people in the >vicinity. Let me correct myself and add some info to the post I made last night. Melodeons turn out to be kin to bandoneons and accordions. I must have been thinking of nickelodeons. I won't mention harmelodicas and harmoniums. Bjork's plexiglass music box, which played two disks, seems to be a disc music box, as opposed to a cylinder music box. If you look at the website below, you will find what was probably in the plexiglass box. I wonder if Bjork had the discs custom made? http://www.portermbx.com/twindisc.html About native people living in Iceland: Iceland has no Inuits living in it. An article on the web indicated there may have been intermarriage between scandinavians and the Inuit. Someone somewhere thinks these hybrid people migrated to Iceland. I got confused and can't remember whether the migrants were from Greenland or Scandinavia. A Sugarcubes site explains that Bjork has no Inuit blood. She has always looked Scandinavian to me. I just thought she was dyeing her hair black. Celts are supposed to have settled on Iceland, thus the dark hair in the Icelandic population. However, some of the women in the Bjork backing group looked very Indian/aboriginal. Okay, I swear I'm not spreading disinformation for the NSA. Lyle P.S. I found the perfect music for lonely Monday nights. Play the Finn Brothers followed by Sam Phillips and throw in some Crowded House. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Sep 2001 23:35:32 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Bjork Music Box; Inuits and Iceland Hi, Lyle commented: >However, some of the women in the Bjork backing group looked very >Indian/aboriginal. The entire movie absolutely slew me, but Eliza Dushku was definitely one of the best things about it. The role of Sissy the Jewel Thief was written specifically for her. It is used to describe bad science-fiction. The term "SF" covers Speculative fiction, space fantasy, and science fiction. Ole' Forrie Ackerman coined the phrase, but his SF author friends didn't care for it. Unfortunately, 'sci-fi' has been in the media too long and folks like me can only grumble. 8-) bye, (besides, most of the stuff labelled 'SCI-FI' on TV _is_ 'skiffy') KrW I'm Peter Pan!
