Well, there are plenty of those around, and Happy has copies of all of them. If Happy had wanted to send copies of any of them around to labels, I'm sure she would have done it already. Maybe she has. Hmmm, maybe she should sell copies to fans, to help pay her medical bills. Would anyone even buy nonprofessionally videotaped concerts? > Believe it or not, labels still care about > stage presence pre-marketing assembly line. I know. It's depressing though. Not that she doesn't have stage presence, she does, and of course, she's beautiful as hell, but just the fact that these things should matter to a degree that she would even have to think about them (I'm referring to one of her observations on her web site), that's what's depressing. It does have a few good moments but is also shockingly bad in places. I mean - "Just get real - don't be a cosmic woo-woo" - what the frell is that?! Didn't Brooks used to be angry? I never did get around to buying her first album but that's the impression I got. Anyway, this album is passably country at its best and bad, bad bubblegum pop at its worst. Sigh. I'm going to have to listen to Delerium's "Karma" on repeat for a few hours to get the taste of this one out of my mouth (I can't seem to get my CDROM to play track 1, is that normal?)... Jargon Society (the band with the cello) 2.) Mila Drumke Band (the band with the violin) 3.) Molly Zenobia (the ethereal young woman playing the electric piano) 4.) Rachael Sage (the glittery woman with the bright clothes and Carmen Miranda sunglasses) 5.) Trina Hamlin (the dark-haired woman who played the guitar and the harmonica, she was also on stage during Rachael's set) 6.) Edie Carey (the light-haired woman who played the guitar) The other people at the microphone holding things like clipboards or a trash bag box (which held the raffle tickets) or an ectofest poster would be myself and Chuck. While this is old news....about 15 months old)....I found out last weekend about another manufacturer catering to the (no offense to low grade tape fans) "dumb" public's preference with cheaper media and discontinuing a mildly higher-priced but MUCH better version. I just found out that in the spring of 2000 Maxell had decided to end the line of XLIIS cassette tapes and of course keep the XLII line. :-( Boo! Hiss! Boo! Down with Mr. Maxell !!! Burn him! Burn him! Toss him into the lake! Build a bridge out of him! I dunno about any other of you oldtimers like me who still like to make tapes more than burning CDs, but I for one have been one of Maxells' biggest XLIIS customers since the very early 80s. Nothing through the years would make me madder than seeing my local higher tech stereo stores sell and praise their high tech higher priced cassette decks and hi-fi stereo VCRs et al and then only stock the dirt cheapest TDK or Maxell tapes! Grrrrrrrrr!! Of course they'd tell me "they won't buy them" even though the tapes only cost like maybe 50 cents more a tape all the while the customer just spent > $450 for a cassette deck or $700-800+ for a VCR. They can't afford a buck more for a pair of tapes? Tape that are better for their new machine? And of course the mainstream stores....heck, we'd be lucky if they stocked even the lesser grade XLII but instead they have them REALLY cheap tapes that cost like....well, I wouldn't know. ...I never held one. So, I now mourn the loss of a dear friend that goes back to the days I had not even one gray hair. :-( Counting the tapes in his just arrived shipment of 150 Maxell XLIIS 90s (and a few 60s & 100s), Mike P.S. and don't even get me started on trying to find metal cassette tapes. I'd likely find Jimmy Hoffa and Amelia Earhart together on a Vegas honeymoon before I'd find a metal cassette tape in this state. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 00:06:57 +0000 From: ebgb@textmode.net Subject: Spare ticket for Heather Nova, Wed night, London Hi Ectophiles. Well there was that Middle East show that was shown on Prism a few years back (when there was a Prism.. and a Middle East for that matter) I seem to remember there being some issue with the quality of it... Anyway, if Happy WANTED to make a video (I have no idea what her motivations are myself) the thing to do is find some art college student to do it as a project for free. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 00:19:19 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: [samlambert@rcn.com: Katell Keineg @ Mercury Lounge 9/12] - ----- Forwarded message from sam ----- Hi there, For all the NYC-area Katell Keineg fans: she will be playing at the Mercury Lounge (www.mercuryloungenyc.com) on Wednesday, September 12, at 10pm.
