Actually, Liz's new album has been put on hold for next year release and she is collaborating on its production with the very talented Pete Yorn. If you have not checked out his debut album "Music for the Morning After," I highly recommend it. In the meantime, she will be starring in her debut film, called "Cherish." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 14:29:18 -0400 From: Ofer Inbar Subject: Molly Zenobia tonight - Cambridge MA If you're in the Boston area, or just happen to be up for an impromptu road trip, and wanna catch a preview of Molly Zenobia before ectofest, she's doing a free show tonight in Cambridge MA, at the Middle East corner (in the restaurant section right at the corner). The Middle East is on Mass Ave a couple of blocks from Central Square, heading towards MIT. Molly will be playing with her drummer, Dave. Her bass player and guitar player are both temporarily out of commission due to injuries (it's a plague this summer, I tell ya!) Molly had a great interview on WERS this morning, and you might be able to hear her on Coffeehouse soon - call up and request if you listen :) She's also got shows coming up at Fire & Water in Northampton on August 17th and 23rd, and then of course ectofest. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@aaaaa.org cos@polyamory.org -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "... you've been under that same rock, I said, meet any new earthworms today, doll?" -- Molly Zenobia, "Hello" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 17:08:11 -0400 From: Jason Gordon Subject: jonatha brooke in new haven/one of those wonderful days at the mailbox Jonatha Brooke live last night in new haven was spectacular (a little disappointing at the turn out, 450 were at the melissa ferrick show at the same venue earlier this week, probably less than 100 for Jonatha). Her new material sounds incredible live, especially the groove on how deep is your love, red dress, and linger. I cant believe it had been over 3 years since I last saw her... Also, today was just one of those wonderful days at the mailbox :) - Splendid "Have you got a name for it" - angie hart from frente! new band I guess - 1999 release that i didnt know existed until the other day :) from what I've heard so far it seems like her songwriting and use of her wonderfully quirky voice has matured, but in a good way Susan McKeown and Lindsay Horner - Mighty Rain (another disc that I had no idea existed until last week for some strange reason :) The projekt sampler: finally getting around to picking up the discs I have been meaning to get: Louisa John Krol - Ariel, Mira -Apart, Faith and Disease - beneath the trees, frolic "to dream perchance to sleep" - the new frolic album, followup to the quite lovely, preprojekt "permafrost" Off to listen -Jason n.p. I joined the mailing list about 2 weeks ago, but never had anything to say :-) I had a question about a song and I figured if anyone could answer it, the ectophiles could. The song in the background of the commercial for the Jetta VR6, when the man is driving to get to a wedding on time and he comes through the door just as the man and woman are saying their vows, all 3 stare at each other speechless. I love the song that's playing, it's very high and very pretty. Does anyone know who that is? It's been driving me crazy since the commercial came out. Thanks to anyone who can help me out :-) One more thing: There was something in a previous email (about the national anthem) that someone said about not understanding the song Yankee Doodle. I have an explanation if anyone cares to read it. Yankee Doodle was written to make fun Yankees by portraying them as simpletons. The character of Yankee Doodle is a sort of silly Everyman. He rides to town (I've also heard "rode to London") on a pony, meaning he's poor or just cheap and doesn't have any other, more fashionable, means of transportation, such as a carriage. He "stuck a feather in his cap" to make himself appear more stylish, it only succeeds in making him look foolish. An English teacher once told me that "macaroni" was some sort of slang for something fashionable or stylish, hence the last line of the song. I hope that helps, and if anyone has any other theories or comments, I'd love to hear them. Since this type of question comes up a lot, it's worth repeating: Go to http://www.adcritic.com. The music section lists the music of most of the TV commercials in rotation. From there, I see that the VW Wedding Day commercial music is by J.Ralph. I cannot speak as to whether that excerpt is typical of his work. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2001 20:45:09 -0700 (PST) From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Question: song on commercial - ---- RockChic02@aol.com wrote: > The song in the background of the commercial > for the Jetta VR6, when the man is > driving to get to a wedding on time and he > comes through the door just as the > man and woman are saying their vows, all 3 > stare at each other speechless. Ralph is also known as Spy, and that this track is a hidden track on the album *Music To Mauzner By.* Clips can be heard on CDNow at the following URL: . pb ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #225 **************************
