This wasn't such a bad little article, as it steered away from the usual condescending "My, acoustic guitars don't HAVE to be boring" kind of blather, but spoke about some interesting sounding people (and with no mention of N*** D****, and only one of J*** B******!). Mainly, David Kitt, who's been getting a lot of press recently. He has a new album, "Small Moments" out, and it might be worth an ecto gander. Also mentioned is Jacob Golden ("blessed with a voice of extraordinary emotive power, an androgynous instrument with a breathtaking range that's never histrionic") and --- away from Tegan and Sara --- Hawksley Workman, who is described as "an entertainer, a vaudevillian, an inspired fabulist". His debut, "For Him and the Girls" is further described as "a bit Bowie and a bit Broadway. Hmmmm. Meanwhile, there's also Kevin Tihista, who's put on the scale somewhere between Matthew Sweet and Elvis Costello. Double hmmmmm. Sorry, I have no idea of the web link for this story (did anyone find the Jill Sobule piece in the Onion, in the end?) but thought I'd throw a few names into the pot. Oh, and farewell Carroll O'Connor, whose obit was just published over here, yesterday. I had the theme tune to All in the Family running through my head all night! And, of course, to Jack Lemmon, a fine and underrated actor, and Joan Sims, one of the last of the Carry On regulars. adamk Get your own zoom email - click here - http://www.zoom.co.uk/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 10:20:56 -0700 From: "Russ Van Rooy" Subject: Re: Steely Dan Actually I think it's from William S. (If you don't like the colors, blame Chuck. ;) We'll have an announcement of a couple more performers in the next few days. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has come through with a sponsorship so far. We're still a ways away from our goal, though, so don't be thinking you missed the boat. Every bit will help. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org ======================================= ectofest 2001: August 25, 2001 Kenosia Lake Park, Danbury, CT http://www.ectofest.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 17:21:38 -0600 (MDT) From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: ectofest.org updated On Thu, 28 Jun 2001, meredith wrote: > This year's ectofest web site is now up, at > http://www.ectofest.org/index1.html. > > (If you don't like the colors, blame Chuck. ;) The colors look particularly lovely if you click on Rachel Sage's link and open up her pages against the ectofest pages. Is this the official color of ectofest 2001? Can we expect fluorescent lime green on fluorescent lime green t-shirts? :) neal np: Over the Rhine at the Paramount ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 18:15:21 -0700 From: Phil Hudson Subject: RE: ecto-digest V7 #178 You came in from Texas on a cow?!?!? - -----Original Message----- From: Joseph Zitt ...some friends from a MOO i'm on are congregating in SF somewhere, .... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2001 19:26:11 -0500 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: ecto-digest V7 #178 On Thu, Jun 28, 2001 at 06:15:21PM -0700, Phil Hudson wrote: > You came in from Texas on a cow?!?!? (I must have been doing something right to please the radio gods to have been given this opportunity.) They will both be performing tomorrow night, along with Jess Klein, at the Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Of course, Veda will then be doing a house concert at the House o' Muzak in New Haven on Saturday night. For those of you who don't live in the WPKN listening area, you can listen on line at www.wpkn.org.
