I don't really have an opinion about them yet - I'm just going by the short real audio snippets found on that amazon.com page. But even they are enough to get me interested, and to add "Thread Bone Bare" to my list of items to order. I'd love to see them play, if only I lived a tad closer to Denver :) If you want to check them out, that amazon.com page is probably your best bet at this point, it looks like they registered a domain, but the site is still to be developed. I hope it will appear soon, and when it does, it will contain some mp3s... - -- Jessica Byers 23373 Highway 93 North ~~~ http://www.geocities.com/amari913 Arlee, MT 59821 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2001 01:20:44 -0700 From: lanblind@teleport.com Subject: Re: ecto-digest V7 #155 regarding Alan Moore of the Butterfly people, he is a friend of mine, a visionary and very supportive of music, as well as healing thru the Patch Adams idea of fun and insanity amoungst illness. He is interested in helping, coming to EctoFest, we just did a joint radio show in San Fran...he is for real. I will be singing right after Ectofest at a benefit for Musicians for World Peace at Ashkenaz on June 29th in Berkeley. Another good female fronted band and friend of mine is Fontain's Muse. Fontain is very talented and her music a real mix of world, bluesey rock and killer vocals. All are welcome, local Ecto folks and anyone still around from the east. I will play only two songs as I am a last minute invite to help out. Hope to see any of you there. I am also encouraging Alan to bring himself and info for a table at Phil's (hope that is ok phil?) for the House Concert of Ectofest in Boulder Creek. see you all soon, ectobutterfly flying dreamers west coast visiting singer lovers and lovely new/old friends, can't wait to meet all of you and have some fun. cyoakha grace the blind myself cyo cyo azigza butterfly ectohead promo queen and general diva holy fool etc...etc... Her first album, Salt Peter, spat, snarled, seethed and bubbled. A spikey swirl of sinister beauty, it got its hooks into you and pulled you to it in a cathartic and chilling embrace. This...this doesn't. Apart from a couple of standout tunes (the first and last) this trips amiably along, combining electronica with a sort of smoooooth jazz, to good effect, and aligned with her usual loaded and edgy lyrics. It's a pleasant listen, and one I will doubtless return to in the hope I can discover, under the layers of cool instrumentation, the old fire. Elbow/Asleep at the Back: Or -- And I Swore I'd Never Be Fooled by the Critics Again. It's another Radiohead tribute band. Or another Muse tribute band -- it's kind of hard to tell. They liven it up a bit with a couple of slight Beta Band infusions, but otherwise it's all terribly, willfully Sincere, awash with drippy melodrama and calculated Sensitivity. If you're a fan of the Muse/Coldplay/Doves kind of thing, you'll love this. You really will. They're counting on it. adamk Get your own zoom email - click here - http://www.zoom.co.uk/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 09:30:23 -0700 From: Damon Subject: last-minute ectofestwest planning ok - i was coming, and then i wasn't, and then i was, and then i wasn't, and now i'm just not sure. i'd be travelling alone, which i despise, and which is the main point against. there are, however, some relatively cheap flights going on at the moment, which is a point for. i know this has all been discussed to death, but i haven't inserted myself into the discussion before, so i probably need some bringing up to speed: - - is there any group of ectophiles meeting at the aeroport saturday morning? - - how about leaving monday morning? (or some other day) - - any arrangements of places to stay, or would i be looking into hotels/hostels? i'm still not sure i'll really be able to make it, but i guess i should have been planning this ages ago anyway... silly me. thanks for any info. - -damon Damon Harper _/\_ "Life's too short, babe, time is damon@usrbin.ca __\ /__ flying; I'm looking for baggage \ / that goes with mine..." http://www.usrbin.ca/damon/ |/||\| - Mimi, from Rent ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 13:38:16 -0400 (EDT) From: "Donald G. Keller" Subject: suransong I'm not sure I can adequately describe Suran Song in Stag, either, having heard them only that once, live, some months ago. I can say without fear of contradiction that they are Not Like Other Bands. Drums, bass, female vocals, generally with a ferocity that led Glenn MacDonald to compare them to Kristeen Young (a very superficial likeness). I just got an e-mail from them today guiding the recipient to www.cruel.music.com where they have put up a video for their cover of the Pretenders' "Tatooed Love Boys." I can't remember what-all other songs they covered at their show, but it was a lapel-shaking lot quite in keeping with their own originals. Certainly they are not for the faint of ears. I have every intention of catching their upcoming Arlene's Grocery show. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2001 14:07:07 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: Re: last-minute ectofestwest planning I guess I'm in the same kind of boat as Damon, but hadn't brought it up to the list. I'm arriving in CA on Thursday the 7th for my residency at Headlands. It's in Sausalito, and because it's in a national park there's only public transportation on Sundays and holidays. If someone in the area would be willing to give me a ride (I would pay and make pleasant conversation) I could probably go, but otherwise I think I'll just be looking forward to reading about it on-list. I went and listened to all the samples at cruel music (which, BTW, is http://www.cruelmusic.com) and loved them. Often aggresive and punky, they somehow put the energy and spirit of Bonfire Madigan into my mind. (Probably another superficial comparison.) Of the covers on the web site, my hands down favorite, and probably most ecto-relevant, is 10K Maniac's "MY Mother the War" (which occassionally get's turned into "Mummy - the War"). Anyway, I was thrilled by the suggestions. neal np: Dreamfield mp3's ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 19:52:51 -0400 From: /dev/woj Subject: Re: I just got an email Cyoahka alan, >I just got an email Cyoakha sent to you.
