The files that came up for me **WERE VIRUSES**. I got two hits on my search; the first didn't have a file extension at all, the 2nd had a file extension of .exe. What clinched it was the fact that both files were 8k and the information that the latest virus files on Gnutella were all 8k in size has been known for weeks. I immediately halted the download of both files. For those who do this sort of thing but are new at it, remember to NEVER EVER EVER open a file with no extension, with an .exe extension or with a .vbs extension. Windows users who can't see extensions should turn them on. Generally it's My Computer --> Tools --> Folder Options --> View, then uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" box. Windows 95 is different but I don't remember the exact procedure. It might be under My Computer --> View ---> Folder Options --> Advanced, but I'm not sure. Well, that's my tip for fellow Copyright Terrorists out there. He said everything I wanted to say, but was a lot quicker about it, and said it better than I could have, anyway. It's a very broad spectrum, here, and there's room for lots of types of music. What your e-mail made me wonder, however, was --- does anyone remember/ever knew of the bands Die Monster Die and Bandit Queen? Anyone know what happened to them? They were female led, but very heavy (especially Die Monster Die), released one really good album each, then seemed to disappear. Supposedly there is a type of virus present on the Gnutella network which will mimic *any* filename you look for. The key is that it is *always* the exact same size. Apparently you can find out where it's at simply by searching for "imavirus.exe", and it will display its presence by stupidly mimicking that name too. For those who are interested, Napster's new filters block out the names Kate Bush (though not Kate, or Bush, or Bush, Kate), Tori Amos (though not Tori, or Amos, or Amos, Tori), the word Sarah (though not Sara or McLachlan) and any file with the word "happy" in it, which, of course, blocks out Happy Rhodes. Napster has filtered to the edge of ruin. I know they had to, but damn. I should be sharing thousands of files, but only 132 are showing up. It's the end of an era. I guess it's on to Bearshare and Audiogalaxy for me. Or .js, .pif, .scr, .shb, .shs, .vb, .vbe, and the list keeps getting longer. It's a fairly recent song, i believe. Female vox. Piano backing. Chorus goes along the line of "i will love you....love you" very sweet, kinda like a lullaby, sounds like it would fit perfectly in a movie soundtrack or in the closing moments of a tv show. in fact, i have this pressing feeling that that's where i've heard it before. but i heard it over some loudspeakers last tuesday and i couldn't figure out what it was. help? paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 02:31:45 +0000 From: carnivore@bigfoot.com (DanS) Subject: Re: song help > Chorus goes along the line of "i will love you....love >you" Wow, Paul, that really narrows things down. ;) It wasn't Nina Gordon, "Tonight and the Rest of My Life", was it? I don't know how often she sings "I Love You" but the rest of the description fits and I'm pretty sure it keeps showing up in Dawson's Creek type shows. Not that I watch them. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 23:09:30 -0400 From: Paul Kim Subject: Re: song help At 02:31 AM 4/27/01 +0000, DanS wrote: >> Chorus goes along the line of "i will love you....love >>you" > >Wow, Paul, that really narrows things down. ;) It >wasn't Nina Gordon, "Tonight and the Rest of My Life", >was it? It sounds kinda like a sappy sarah mclachlan piano ballad, reminds me of the Toy Story 2 song that she sang for Randy newman, with a hint of vonda shepherd thrown in. paul, trying to be more specific :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 20:03:01 -0400 From: dave Subject: re: # of subscribers question Kevin writes: > Question: How many people subscribe to this list ? > Answers, guesses, estimates appreciated.
