Oh well, I guess that is the point of doing a cover, is to make it your own. My own stuff is already near left field but this is, ohhhh soooo strange. I have always loved Feed The Fire, but sometimes heard strange things in the words (that when I checked the lyrics, simply were not there). They are now. I started with a drum loop, very trip hop, couldn't figure out why I was singing faster that Happy when I had slowed the song down. (I was singing double time)Then I realised the drums were in a strange key and I had followed the key of the drums. The song is no longer recognizable. I hope Happy doesn't sue me. I listen to it and freak myself out, then I go away and come back and listen again and say, "oh, maybe this is really cool?" and then go away again and come back and say "oh my god, this is the strangest song/place I have ever gone to". It all started when I thought she was saying "Back to the trees where our young were born and we were duly sworn"....so I said, yeah, back to the trees, tribal, back to basics and got all tribal and dark and simple yet strange, a jungle chant. Then I looked at the real lyrics and it was "where our art was born"...ART, oh no!!! Not him again! Anyway, this one will stand out like a strange thumb, like the thumb for hitching in Only Cowgirls get the Blues by Tom Robbins. Anyone that hears this do not think me too strange, I can sing pretty and normal too. Sometimes something is so beautiful that you shouldn't touch it, and yet, your hand snakes out. I know that the song I worked on with Bill and Phil, Save Our Souls is very pretty, so perhaps I shall be forgiven by all Happy worshippers and not strung up and hung in the tree of experiemental music. May God, Happy and all of you forgive me for feeding this fire. tee hee, cyoakha O'Manion Music PO Box 198 Mill Valley, CA 94941 lanblind@teleport.com http://www.landoftheblind.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 08:40:31 -0700 (PDT) From: Marla Tiara Subject: Rasputina is BACK! Whispers is actually no longer her newest--a newer one just came out that I"m still digesting (it's also very good--more in line with her past couple)--but Whispers is stunningly beautiful--not a bad song on it. I just got my Pet album off of half.com (the only place I have been able to find it since they are now defunct)! Pet was the first and last (as of yet) band signed on to Igloo Records, Tori Amos' own little label. Vocalist Lisa Papineau is amazing! She can be soft and wispy, a sweet yet slightly hoarse soprano, or scathing and enraged, a sudden burst of emotion and screaming at the top of her lungs. I love women like that. I discovered her on "The Crow: City of Angels" soundtrack that my boyfriend has. The song is "Lil' Boots". I didn't even think to connect her to the Igloo Records Pet, until I was reading an article about them later, that mentioned their track listing. And there was "Lil' Boots"! I was so excited, and I immediately began scavenging the internet for their album, which is self-titled by the way. I love half.com. What a wonderful site. Everyone get Pet! :) Black Dove n.p. - Paz Lenchantin - Yellow My Skycaptain ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 20:46:18 EDT From: Dracovixen@aol.com Subject: Re: Imogen Heap In a message dated 4/6/01 2:10:49 AM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-ecto-digest@smoe.org writes: > Which reminds me - what has happened to Imogen Heap? I wouldn't be worried yet. :) After all, didn't Alanis and Poe disappear for like 5 years each (except Alanis' "Univtied" and Poe's "Today") and then both suddenly had new releases out? I was seriously beginning to think that both of them had quit the music business. Alanis' album was a surprise, not only for her sudden return from her hiatus, but for its less angry content. I loved it. I thought Poe had quit, but then she surprised everyone with a new album, and I believe she has grown very much musically. If you haven't checked out "Haunted" yet, you should. It's a mindblower. Nothing like her first album whatsoever. You realy should find a chance to listen to it from beginning to end, because it is like a journey, an exploration. And it is a bit of a spooky album, as well. Poe's father died in 1993 (if I remember correctly), and she found tapes of his lectures, and she samples him in the music...This album is almost like she is trying to face him, to come to some sort of closure with his death, and then in the end, she can finally let him go. If you've only got a chance to check out just a few songs, try "Haunted", "Control", "Walk the Walk", "Wild", and "If You Were Here". "Haunted" is very pretty, "Control" is empowering, "Walk the Walk" is fun, "Wild" is an awesome, awesome, awesome song, and "If You Were Here" is incredibly pretty and kinda sad. It's a great album, and has been virtually living in my cd changer since I got it. I can't compare it to her first cd because "Haunted" is the only work of Poe's that I know. The spoken word parts are quite interesting, and they are the only "lyrics" that appear in the cd booklet. It's full of complexities in the way it weaves phone conversations, her father's voice, etc. with the songs, complexities that I haven't figured out yet. But it's also full of songs that stand on their own, so you can just listen to it that way, and it's still fantastic.
