It made me think of how I constantly feel guilt for not knowing more about black music. A pointless feeling I know. I think I'm being ecletic enough anyway. Anyway the new Nick Cave cd should be good juding by the track I heard on the radio last night. Cheryl Bliss who I've mentioned has a cd out finally. Very nice stuff I think. www.cherylbliss.com for info. Does anyone know if Laurie Freelove plans to make the invisible invisible available less expensively than the cdr copy at harmony ridge..30 bucks..Yikes. A quick look up on the internet reveals this band has been around awhile (and I missed this boat). Any recommendations on where to start. I see they have a 5 version EP of Sweet Lullaby available, I might grab that, but which CD does the well tuned Ecto minds recommend.. Thanks; Rich Rapp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 05:57:21 -0800 From: "Jack Sutton" Subject: RE: Stuff and no sense Hello, Laurie has had several promising music deals, in an effort to get her new material released, fall through in the last year or so. Being a struggling artist, I feel this has frustrated Laurie to some degree. Although at this time she is disenchanted with the music business, she still wants to share her music with as many people as possible. I think the cdr price reflects the fact that Laurie contracts these discs out in small quantities as she has no cd burner herself. This may be an area where I can help her get these discs produced at cost and reduce the price. I'll contact Laurie directly about this. What a sweet little movie. I especially liked the dentist who has a Star Trek theme park of an office. The Klingons in the documentary were entertaining, whether they were marching around town or just standing there with brows proudly shining. The lady from Little Rock who wore her Star Trek uniform to the White Water trial came across as an appealing eccentric who prizes individuality over fading into the crowd. Everyone interviewed seemed to be 80-90 percent normal with a comfortable amount of space in their brains for wackiness. Very much like we all are. The film brought back fond memories of watching Star Trek on Friday evenings, circa 1967. Also, the time as a teenager I insisted on having pointy sideburns (no one ever noticed). Reminded me of the irritation I once felt when one of my classmates used Star Trek talk as an ice breaker and I was offended because I thought the guy was shoving me into the nerd column without figuring out what my personality was really like. Anyway, if you haven't watched _Trekkies_ yet and you like science fiction and Star Trek, you should rent it. It will make you smile. And you get to see Denise Crosby a lot, hubba, hubba. Plus getting a last glimpse of DeForrest Kelly and James Doohan (Doohan died recently, didn't he?). Bye, Lyle n.r. Cassel's Dictionary of Slang. Fun reading. I've already looked up all the dirty words-- though the dictionary didn't do justice to lollygagging. Cockney rhyming slang is well covered. I recommend it to writers out there who want to try some new verbal twists. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 16:27:41 +1100 (EST) From: Amanda Subject: Re: Deep Forest On Wed, 7 Mar 2001 rich.rapp@effem.com wrote: > Good Morning; > > I just heard a song on WXPN this morning by "Deep Forest" called _Sweet > Lullaby_. > > A quick look up on the internet reveals this band has been around awhile (and I > missed this boat). > > Any recommendations on where to start. This album is called Deep Forest. World Mix, and if the cover is the same, it is a green background with the logo in gold. I suggest that this album is the best one to buy - it has themost consistent quality. THe other two albums are very good..Boheme, the second one, has mainly Asian influences (apart from Marta's song, track 3, which is a haunting blend of Bulgarian and Asian). Comparsa, album #3, is a very African Album..as a whole it has a real 'Soweto' feel. Lots of fun.
