She's not really performing much traditional music anymore (when I caught her in London last autumn, she joked that the traditional material had been lost somewhere) unless she's performing with her parents. (Martin's 60th birthday is in May; she's up to play at a huge birthday bash in Oxford -- would like to make it -- that show has a very fine line-up.) She did play one traditional song during that show (at La Scala in London) and gave it a bit of a Steeleye Span/Fairport-type twist. Will she have the full band with her in the States, I wonder? Martin Page, often a writer and producer for someone else's albums, came out and into the limelight with _In The House Of Stone And Light_. The album, although not top-notch by ecto standards, does have its lucid moments. The beat in _Keeper Of The Flame_ is rather catchy, which makes it a good FM radio single. But, pay close attention to the lyrics of _I Was Made For You_, and you will find poetry within the song. The title track is an interesting, layered work, and probably the most ecto-ish of the bunch, which is probably why it caught your attention. I think the man has a talent for good lyrics, and for studio production, which shows in his album. In contrast, I saw him perform _In The House Of Stone And Light_ in a TV morning show, just him and two pals, all three of them playing guitars/bass, and it was just not the same; what makes _In The House Of Stone And Light_ is the production, in my opinion. Now that I have moved to Arizona and began a new life of sorts, the line from _In The House Of Stone And Light_, "Havasupai Shaman let me be reborn" takes on special meaning. I'd recommend the disc at a bargain-bin price. - - Bill G. np: CSNY - Looking Forward nr: Jack Kerouac - On The Road (sorta put it aside for a while) On Fri, 2 Mar 2001 14:07:26 -0800, Phil Hudson wrote: >Hello All, I just heard a rather beautiful track on the car radio by Martin >Page, thought it was Sting at first. >The song is called, or had the chorus line; " Living in the House of Light >and Stone". He said he heard someone on NPR this morning who was doing the same kind of thing, updating traditional music, but he couldn't remember who it was. I guessed Eliza Carthy, thanks to all the recent talk here, and he was amazed that I immediately knew based on such a sketchy description :) he's even considering ordering a disc, which is pretty incredible. neal np: miss rocket - sara craig (thanks anna maria) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #68 *************************
