The result of this new found fame is that the "No Angel" > album is being heavily promoted, released in countries it wasn't released in > before, new singles are being picked etc. agreed. i've been rather enchanted by her voice ever since her material was utilised in "sliding doors" a few years back (seen for john hannah, not ms. paltrow, i concede). i've had "no angel" since its first release in the states, and it was only a couple of weeks ago released here in australia ... the video for "here with me" is now on high rotation on channel [v] -- a pay television music channel -- and has also been featured on rage, on the ABC, on friday nights. > Does anyone else out there worry that this is going to happen to Dido? Wild horses couldnt stop me from seeing it. Sometimes its good to be disturbed. I found The Cell disturbing, sick, twisted and beautiful and loved it. Shadbolt" Subject: Artist of Interest: Deborah Pardes Thought that ecto might find this artist interesting. Deborah Pardes is originally from New York, but migrated to San Francisco a few years ago. She was the Lillith Fair local winner in 1999. A friend of mine describes Deborah as "a musican that makes you think." And I personally can't think of a better way of describing her music. Voice wise, she has a somewhat Lucy Kaplanski type of voice, but far less nasal or "twangy". Most of her songs are acoustic guitar with some light backup (drums, a little synth, some extra voices). She has basically supplanted everyone in my CD player these past couple of weeks. Her three albums are available from her website http://www.mentlmusic.com "Strange Tattoo" 1997 "Live in Concert" 1998 "Blessing or a Curse" 1999 It's a toss-up which to suggest, both studio albums are very good, and the Concert recording gives you a good idea of how well she holds up live (this is not a electronically enhanced artist.) Boy, it's sure been an expensive couple of months, all this music hitting me upside the head... (for those in the SF area, Deborah will be doing a house concert @ my place in May, let me know if you are interested.) troy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 11:32:55 -0800 From: "Cerquone, Suzanne" Subject: OT: Hannibal I just wanted to jump in and say I enjoyed the movie Hannibal immensely. Gross, yes. But the film didn't overdo what was already in Thomas Harris' book; if anything, it underplayed it at times. I thought it was an incredibly decent sequel. And if you're a Hans Zimmer fan like me, you'll enjoy the movie for its beautiful score. Speaking of Zimmer, I think those who have posted about "More Music from Gladiator" which is coming out 2/27 will enjoy it. I have an advance copy and it has a couple remixes of Lisa Gerrard's "Now We Are Free." I also enjoyed watching Hans Zimmer's "Composing Gladiator" on the Gladiator DVD. I'm always fascinated by film composers and how they "put it all together." (now, there's a bad trend: encores for openers....) woj ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #46 *************************
