I'm going to see Mary Timony in Tallahassee, Florida tomorrow night, AND shannonwright is opening for her! That's going to be damned amazing, both of their albums were at the top of my best-of-y2k list so this is just going to rule my school. Rawk. Expect a full report. I'm doing my 70's progressive Jazz stuff now: Chic Corea and later RTF, latter day Gong, french group Maneige, Mirage, W.German Passport and Kraan, and violinist Scarlet Rivera. It is Kraan I'm writing this about. In the 70's KansasCity radio station had Her Majesties Voice, all import music. Among lots of others I heard Krann. I now have Let It Out and Andy Nogger and neither one has the music I heard (and r2r recorded, not -that- good a memory!). So, A) does anyone [here] have any old Kraan, or, B) does anyone know of a music search engine that might be able to find obscure lp info?? Thanks, bye, n.p.: Scarlet Rivera: Scarlet Rivera KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! There's a 3rd October Project CD: their demonstration CD, which was never released to the public. This CD has on it Be My Hero, Bury My Lovely, Ariel, Where are You, and Return To Me. In some ways, I think that Mary Fahl's voice is even more lovely on this promo CD than it is on any other album. The musical arrangements on the October Project demo CD are different --less complex, less produced-- which is one of the reasons that Mary Fahl's voice shines. The CD, as a whole, is remarkable. I got my copy on an eBay auction. I just took a look and there are a couple more of these demo CDs being auctioned, if anyone's interested. - --Bill www.adlerbooks.com n.p. Sometime you just gotta let these things out. Little demons, little angels, who the fuck knows. Anyway, as I was sitting in the control room at Collin County Community College this evening, I work here part-time as a lab manager, I saw a lady walk into the lab. She was at least 50, Hispanic, maybe Mexican, maybe Costa Rican, maybe Cuban who knows, very frail, withered hair, no make-up, old clothes, old shoes and an old dirty purse. I watched here sit at a workstation and try to login to the network for a few minutes and then went to assist her. It turns out she is not a student so she did not have an account. She is just someone who heard that this was a place she might be able get a little practice at the computer and enhance her job prospects. She told me she works at a local pizza place as a cook and dishwasher. I imagine that she has a few kids that are still dependants, maybe some that are in trouble with the law or even in prison, a young pregnant daughter whose boyfriend is long gone or maybe she is lives alone, no husband, no children and very few friends. She didn't tell me any of this but you can read a lot about a person just by watching. Anyway I created an account for her as I would for anyone, I don't care if they are students or not. I explained a few things about the network and showed her the basics on pulling up Office 2000 and Netscape and the GroupWise mail system. She has used a computer before, I could tell by watching. I walked back to the control room and watched as she opened word, did some typing and messed around a little on the web. After a couple hours she signed-off and started to walk out of the lab, but before she got to the door, she turned around and walked back to the control room and thanked me for helping her. I told her that she could come back anytime to use that account through next fall, when all the student accounts are deleted for the next full semester. I think it was her coming back to thank me that broke me again like little things like that have broken me so many times before. Most of us live our entire lives so damn caught up with our own problems that we seldom if ever think about how difficult so many others have it. We have our computers and our bikes and our guns and our guitars and our cars, our portable this and that or our new microwave ovens and our new lover or what the fuck ever. Why the hell do so few of us have so much and so many of THEM have so little? Are we just fucking lucky, or are we just fucked? Is it a test? Shit I hope not, cause if it is, it looks like we are going to fail. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 21:33:43 -0500 From: "Kimberly Oliver" Subject: Fw: valenntin'es day press release...
