When I first heard her, it was the song "My Lover's Gone", playing in a music store. My first thought was that it was a Sinead O'Connor song I had somehow missed, but then she sounded more like Sarah McLachlan, or something else entirely. If you pick up the Nettwerk compilation "Christmas Songs", you'll find Dido's original song "Christmas Day", which is the most worthwhile part of the CD, in my opinion. Somehow, the song reminds me of a Jane Austen novel. Otherwise, it's not a very good collection, even if you like Christmas music! I'm hoping that song will be released on a Dido only CD, and then I'll buy it. :) Dido is supposed to be on the Late Show with Craig Kilborn tonight (Tuesday). I'm not sure if it's a repeat or not. I don't know if anyone's posted about this, but Kirsty MacColl died (I think today) in a boating accident in Mexico. It's the lead article at nme.com and allstarmag.com, and anyway, that really shocked me and is pretty upsetting so I wanted to maybe share with other people who like her music. rachel Yahoo! Actually, it was Helen Keller, in a letter to British suffragists (1911, if I'm not mistaken) who expressed her unhappiness with our dual-party system, by saying that we are forced to choose between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. This is *exceedingly* crappy news. And at this particular time of year, too. :( I've been a fan of Kirsty's for a long, long time. Her forays into Latin music weren't exactly to my taste, but I will always have many fond memories associated with the _Kite_ album. I am now kicking myself even more for missing the chance to see her play when she was in New York City a few years ago. I guess this just goes to show - You Never Know. My thoughts go out to her family. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #382 **************************
