Richard Thompson - Walking on a Wire (I perfer the Knots and Crosses version actually) Cowboy Junkies - Where are You Tonight Caedmon's Call - Somewhere North Grey Eye Glances - Far Probably a couple dozen more I'll think of later.. The saddest non-love song I can think of is 'Center Aisle' by Caedmon's Call, written by band member Derek Webb on the way home from the funeral of a girl who had committed suicide. In a note about the song Derek says "...I mainly wondered if whatever it was that had driven her to that point could have been worked out in that quiet room with that group of people..." No matter how many times I hear this song it still puts a lump in my throat.. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 20:17:49 -0500 From: "Hotel America" Subject: Re: court and spark by joni >From: RedWoodenBeads@aol.com >To: ecto@smoe.org >Subject: Re: court and spark by joni >Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 19:46:09 EST > >Joni Mitchel's COURT AND SPARK is probably one of the most brilliant albums >ever made? Does anyone agree? Absolutely. It was the first Joni album I owned, and it's probably still my favorite...every song is a pop masterpiece, and the album works SO well as a cohesive whole. However, while I think these are probably some of Joni's best songs, I prefer the more esoteric lyrics of "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" and "Hejira". I would feel SO much better about my school if just ONCE I walked down the street and heard someone playing Joni in their dorm room. Alas, no... --Chuck n.p. Not good songs for when you are alone. Also, the entire album "Songs For A Friend" by Jon Mark from 1971 or so. Incredibly beautiful, but tear-inducing to the extreme. Many of the songs by the Mark/Almond Band which preceded it as well. (No connection to the singer Marc Almond.) More Recently: "Fumbling Toward Ecstacy" by Sarah MacLachlan.
