WOW. i haven't thought of KING KONG in ages. i had an album of theirs years ago and i have since lost it in the several moves since. don't even remember which one or what it sounded like (had a yellow cover?) erm. a quick peek at DRAG CITY (their label, though they have released other stuff on other labels - mostly 7"s and such) shows that the most recent release by them was in OCT of 97. a short discography can be found at http://www.dragcity.com/bands/kong.html which also has a link to a more detailed discography. as for shorten names, KIM DEAL's "side project" from the BREEDERS, when they were on hiatus was original called TAMMY AND THE AMPS when they played out (i never got a chance to see them as TAMMY and get one of the nifty TAMMY AND THE AMPS tshirt) and then it just got shortened to THE AMPS when they released the album. oh yeah, and KELLY DEAL's side project was originally called KELLEY DEAL 6000 and then it just got shortened to tKD6000 (well it was originally called SOLID STATE 6000 but then it got changed to KELLEY DEAL 6000 then tKD6000) oh and in case anyone is wondering whatever happened to THE BREEDERS - apparently they (meaning KIM DEAL, with possible help from KELLEY) are still writing and recording music....who knows when anything new will come out though...they are "suppose" to go into the studio with STEVE ALBINI (NIRVANA's NEVERMIND, BREEDERS' POD, PJ HARVEY's RID OF ME) to record this JANUARY, but rumors are just rumors (this was the official word from 4AD though). and i just found out that SUZANNE VEGA is finally going into the studio to record a new album! (so says ROLLING STONE and her fan site www.vega.net). yeah! i was saddened to hear that she split with MITCHELL FROOM. i hate it when that sort of stuff happens. okay gotta get back to lurking. irvin - ------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been posted from Mail2Web http://www.mail2web.com/ Web Hosting for $9.95 per month! CHRISTINA's the one with the voice. hee hee. i do like HOLLY COLE's version of PURPLE RAIN (but then i feel most things she touches turns golden, regardless of the material). and maybe it is because i have fond memories of my teenhood, but i really really like LICK THE TINS version of CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE (that ELVIS SONG) that was featured in the movie SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL (which was basically PRETTY IN PINK without MOLLY RINGWALD). whatever happened to that band? did they do anything else other than that one song? and i think i would really like to hear a totally incongruent cover of KATE BUSH. like a cover of THERE GOES A TENNER by JENNIFER LOPEZ or CLOUDBUSTING by THE SPICE GIRLS. just for a lark. and i would like to see a video done for them too. ha. :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been posted from Mail2Web http://www.mail2web.com/ Web Hosting for $9.95 per month! Recall the British band Suede? They had a bit of a run-in with an American lesbian singer named Suede who'd been performing under that name for years.
