What crime The death penalty is 100% percent wrong, period. There is absolutly no arguement in support of this ludicrously barbaric practice. If not for the single reason that we have executed innocent people and we will execute innocent people again. There are lots of other reasons why it should be outlawed, but this is reason enough. The simple percentage variance between upper and lower classes should convince left leaning free spirits as well as bible toting god-fearing right wingers, but it doesn't. That is another thing that really 'cinches my truss' about this election. Both support the death penalty. Both support a large army. FUCK'EM. Big questions are asked about missing ballot boxes and confusing ballots and Geo W bush is threatening legal action to stop it all and wants them to crown him President. I hope in this next legally mandated week (til the 17th.) he keeps whining and finally embarrasses the people who voted for him..... Gee! can't tell who I voted for canya? All this IMHO. bye, The law requires one recount following the election. That recount has been conducted and now the democrats want a manual recount of the democratic districts. George W. isn't whining at all, he's just pointing out how pointless and suspicious that is. The votes have been counted twice now. Bush was ahead both times. What could possibly be the point of a manual recount of the democratic districts? Do you think the democrats would request a manual recount of the democratic districts had Gore been ahead? Ofcourse not. Bush won Florida, Gore needs to accept that. It doesn't really matter anyway. Tuesday is the deadline for all the ballots to be in, and the manual recount wouldn't be done until December. The law requires that all unreporting counties be ignored if they haven't reported by Tuesday night at 5:30. Gore actually got court orders in some democratic counties to not report until the manual recount is finished. So Gore may have shot himself in the foot with this one. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 22:00:21 EST From: RedWoodenBeads@aol.com Subject: Re: some guy Date: Sun, 12 Nov 2000 05:00:29 -0600 From: WretchAwry Subject: Re: some guy At 08:53 AM 11/12/2000 +0000, Adam wrote: > he was trawled through all the usual lazy comparisons but > steers clear of Nick Drake's weary, dreary sighing > or Jeff Buckley's histrionics. Read Peter Mathiessen's excellent "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse" for more on this topic. From the back cover of my book (and abridged): In June of 1975, the FBI and Native Americans had a shoot out-- which left one Indian and two federal agents dead. Four members of the American Indian Movement (AIM) were indicted on murder charges and one, Leonard Peltier, was convicted and is now serving consecutive life sentences in a federal penitentiary (and is still in jail if all the "Free Leonard Peltier" bumper stickers I see around the state of New Mexico still apply). I downloaded a song, called "Dead On The Vine" from a fella on Napster, It is most definitely Happy, and he says it's circa 1985. I've never heard her talk about it. I suppose I can see why Happy left it off an album, but hey, it makes for a good lost "b-side"! I like it! For those who don't get the heebie-jeebies around file-sharing programs, you can look for it on AudioGalaxy and Cute MX. You can look for it on Napster but the Nap is having some problems, so I'm not sure if it'll show up. Chris has it in his files and he's a Scour person, so that's another option. Well, as the charter states, Ecto is the forum for pretty much anything members care to discuss. High volume of posts on any topic indicates it is indeed of interest to enough people to create said high volume. I think that's great, and if personally I'm not interested I feel free to ignore the thread, and post on other topics... >I might also remind >people that the Internet is a global thing, and there are a lot of >people out there on this list that have no concept, nor do they rightly >care about most of the US centric messages that have flown through here >in the last week. As one of non-Americans on Ecto I thank you for your concern, but I want to add that I actually enjoy following this discussion. I've learned looking at the US is a fair indication of where Australia will be heading in the next couple of years so I do pay attention to what goes on over there. But I'm limited to the media coverage; on the other hand discussions like this provide a valuable insight into what the real people actually think. Insight especially valuable because I believe Ecto is still blessed with intelligence and knowledge base far above the street average. - ------------------------------------------------------ "The Optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds. Less than a year ago there was a long program on Michelangelo that treated the fact of his being gay as just one of the many things they talked about. Apparently there are writings from him about his terrible feeling of guilt. ->Gay in the EARLY Catholic Church!! Have never heard anything about Shakespeare other than his being one of several people! KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! Just property-oriented, self-righteous and moralizing. Take, say, most of the discussion on this list. Plenty of self-righteous moralizing about how evil and property-oriented those *eeevil* Republicans (shudder) are, and how chirpy and wonderful Ralph Nader is, and how things would be fine and wonderful if Lord God Ralph would take the property away from those *eeevil* corporations (double-shudder) and run things the way any right-thinking human being (and we *all* know that anybody who isn't right-thinking is obviously subhuman) would do it.
