When I switched from Windows to Linux, the data file got endowed with ^Ms at the end of each line, and vim is so helpful that it hides this from you unless you specifically tell it not to. Those ^Ms broke the file parsing routines. And I've been so busy (yeah yeah, sob story) at work that I didn't notice they weren't coming out until Jeff Burka pinged me about it recently. It should work now. Today's birthday is Anthony Horan, ahoran@ozemail.com.au. I admit I've skimmed through a lot of this, but has anyone mentioned Annie Lennox's "Love Song For A Vampire"? A friend of mine and his bride danced to that for their first dance at their wedding. Well I don't know a lot about this type of thing, but I do listen to a band on occasion the lyrics of whom articulate verse about vampires quite often. Helium. I recommend their albums The Luck of Dirt and Magic City to anyone who might not know of them. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Nov 2000 22:24:05 -0500 From: Greg Dunn Subject: Hooverphonic Looking back over the last few years' messages, I saw only a handful about Hooverphonic. I'm quite fond of their "Blue Wonder Power Milk" album, and am curious what other CDs (of theirs or other bands!) might share some of the rich textures and soaring chord progressions that I find so fascinating here. Obviously, one data point is a terrible set from which to plot a function :-) so I'll add (at risk of earning disgust and amazed looks) that I find a lot of similar pleasures in listening to the Sneaker Pimps' album "Becoming X". Anyone willing to extrapolate from these two eclectic albums? Much appreciated. - -- | Greg Dunn | don't open your eyes, you won't | | gregdunn@indy.net | like what you see. the blind | | The Sultan of Slack(tm) | have been blessed with security. | | http://www.indy.net/~gregdunn/ | Trent Reznor | ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Nov 2000 01:19:57 EST From: Gordoja@aol.com Subject: another commercial question, quite a find from a virgin, and terami hirsch Another one of those pesky "whose song is that in a commercial" questions... Who is the singer in the walkman commercial with the blue alien guy where he makes the "audrey sessions" mindisc? The vocals are female and french. Any info would be appreciated as always :) Additionally the Virgin megastore in times square (which typically isnt a place for ecto-goodness) was purging and clearing out their obscure import cds...five for five bucks...the wonderful part was finding Margot Smith "taste", axelle red "con solo pensarlo", wendy rule "deity", the paradise motel "flight paths" and 16 others that I havent heard of but will pass along any interesting finds... Also I wanted to add my endorsement of Terami Hirsch...I am really enjoying the disc especially her use of xylophone. I also really like the melissa dougherty cd recently purchased from cdbaby as well. End ranting and rambling thoughts now....Beep. - -Jason np Margot Smith "Taste" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Nov 2000 23:26:59 -0700 From: "Jeffrey Hanson" Subject: Poe - Haunted Wow--I picked this up today and it's quite a compelling album- very ambitious--sort of like The Beatle's White Album or something-- lots of sampling between songs--but the songs are great! Really rocking but beautiful too. Kind of reminds me of Garbage at times. Really a confident, masterfully produced album. Jeff Hanson n.p. Maria McKee - The Ultimate Collection n.r.
