Any comments? Beth Waters - After Sue Trowbridge mentioned Beth, I went to one of her shows, and she was great. I think everyone would love her. Jill Tracy - Although I'm not familiar with Jill's work, she was the topic of extensive acccolades on this list not too long ago, and she is an SF resident isn't she? Holly Palmer - Is Holly still in San Diego? A friend turned me on to an advance of her (still unreleased) latest, 'Tender Hooks', and it's great. It's an interesting collection of songs ranging from electronica / noise pop to deepish R&B. Great voice. Kym Brown - Who is all the way up in Vancouver, but who might be up for it. I still haven't ordered her CD, but the MP3s on her site are great. Drew __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Messenger - Talk while you surf! Anyone want to take credit? :) Have any of you heard of a band from Portland called the Places? They are led by a female singer/guitarist named Amy Annelle and have a new CD out called THE AUTOPILOT KNOWS YOU BEST on the Absolutely Kosher label. It's a low key but really stunning album. Amy's singing reminds me a bit of Margo from the Cowboy Junkies, and they have a similarly languid sound, maybe with a little bit of Yo La Tengo-style fuzz thrown in (can you tell I'm really bad at describing music?). In any case, Portlanders can check 'em out tomorrow at the Medicine Hat with Rebecca Gates also on the bill. And listen to their MP3's at http://www.epitonic.com/artists/theplaces.html - --Sue Trowbridge trow@slip.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 11:11:54 PDT From: eperkins@surfbest.net Subject: Jill Knight I saw Jill Knight open for Laura Love last night in San Francisco, and she seems like a really good find who I don't remember seeing mentioned here. I am going to see Sarah B in Milwaukee on November something - 17th or something. I don't know what it is about her, but I just love 'er. People who know me are generally surprised and I've gotten in some arguments about Sarah's standing as a true creative artist because someone once said to me that she was no different really from Celine Dion!!!!! Can you believe that??!! I see an OCEAN of difference - no, a GALAXY of difference - between Sarah Brightman and Celine Dion. Anyway, I can go from listening to Nine Inch Nails' 'The Fragile' to listening to Sarah Brightman's 'La Luna' without missing a beat. I'm sure most of us here on the Ecto list are similarly open-minded with diverse tastes. Anyway I didn't want to be the first to mention Sarah Brightman in this forum for fear that people would tell me to beat it, go find another list.
