The night that I saw them, The Kennedys opened and I think carried the audience a lot more. I'm hoping to listen to Equation's CD, but they had little effect on me. Ironically the next day I did watch my taped copy of CNN Worldbeat and was surprised to see them. I don't think the show is CNN's European Music program, but their overall music program. They've done great interviews with a number of people that get rare (if any) airplay. Meredith, I loved your description of Dar's performance. I see her next month and can't wait. I had a wonderful interview with her about 2 weeks ago which will be in FEMMUSIC's October issue. This is probably going to be of no use whatever since I can't verify a specific example, but something tells me there's got to be something that qualifies in Jeff Buckley's discography somewhere. Perhaps someone with a more immediate knowledge of his stuff can provide an example? And what about Jon Anderson? A little investigation shows that CD-RW discs do, inded, tend to be more expensive than CD-R discs, and are more prone to fail. - -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Jerusaklyn http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 10:23:52 -0400 From: Ted Subject: Re: CD-RW questions I run an IDE port HP CD writer Plus 9100 which I purchased about 6 mos ago and I really have no complaints, out of the hundred or so CDs I've burned I've produced 2 drink coasters. I've found that with IDE in general, it really matters just as much what motherboard you're running and how much memory you have. Right now I'm pleased as punch with an Asus P3F-B motherboard, 192 meg of PC100 memory, a Quantum Fireball 7200 rpm IDE Hard Drive and said CD writer. I have not so far run into a T-cal or Buffer under run problem with this setup, which is great for me because it allowed me build a 2nd PC for my music partner out of the savings. I've helped a couple of friends build their "Dream" Machine PC with SCSI port CDRs and RAMBUS Memory, and have found Plextor to be very reliable. Plextor has been around for a long time offering B2B (Gads I hate using I-babble) hardware solutions, and have only recently offered affordable home PC CDRWs. I have not worked with the USB models yet, but that is where I'm going next upgrade, I'm sure you already know the Buzz.... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 10:42:45 -0400 (EDT) From: "Pamela P." Subject: Re: Longest note held by a male pop/rock singer? Jon Anderson...yup, I was gonna say that there have got to be some prog-rock vocalists who could compete for this title. And I know from my teens/20s metalhead phase that Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Geoff Tate of Queensryche held some loooooong (and really, really high) notes in their day. And Tommy Shaw of Styx held one FOREVER when I saw them back in '78. (Oh gawd, there's an admission.) My husband is a big prog-rock/metal fan and there are some obscure (to this list anyway) prog bands like Dream Theater, Angra, Enchant and Threshold whose vocalists still throw out long, high notes with some regularity. I get subjected to them in the car on long road trips. :) (As a matter of fact, Angra did a cover of Kate's "Wuthering Heights" on one of their albums, apparently because she's the lead singer's musical heroine. It was pretty bizarre to hear a male sing it!) What would be Happy's longest recorded note, I wonder? - ------Original Message------ From: meredith To: ecto@smoe.org Sent: September 22, 2000 12:10:58 PM GMT Subject: Re: Longest note held by a male pop/rock singer? I saw some advertised the other day at $9.99 for a pack of 10. The incompatibility with older readers isn't really a problem, most people I know use the rewritables for backing up, and use regular recordables for anything that's going to be used in a different reader. - -- O frabjous day!
