It looked like everybody had a good time, and the park was pleasant (as long as you didn't mind the thick scattering of goose poop in the grass)" So, Fog, there *does* appear to be a relationship between the two, after all; if there's goose crap underfoot and you're listening to HR, you're probably at Ectofest! Apropos of goose guano, Pacific Bell telephone has an enormous and ugly X-shaped building in San Ramon California; the place houses about 10,000 employees, with a shopping mall and two floors of medical, legal, daycare, etc. The place is a small city. A friend of mine in the Telco industry took a tour there, which ended at the center of the X, a large ornamental pool inhabited by a large flock of geese. The tour docent carefully explained that this was one of the most important aspects of the complex, as geese produce an oily, greasy excreta at the bottom of the pond.... "and this is where Pac Bell gets all of its senior executives from". It is uncertain how long this individual remained employed at San Ramon. While the weather conspired to make it a bit of a bad hair day, it was a great ear day. I came home with another cache of new music to listen to, and sweet reminders of why I listen to many of the ones I already do. I talked three friends into attending, folks who don't know Happy or any of the artists, who don't know ecto from goose poop (and I had to inform them there really is no relationship between the two :) We have this ritual of attending the Saratoga jazz festival every year, we're not necessarily big jazz fans but we've always liked the atmosphere of the event. They told me they enjoyed this much more than any such "big" festival. They also made a point to say how great the sound system sounded, I don't know those guys names but they did an outstanding job again - even despite the impromptu rearranging of the venue during the downpour. Kudos all around. They want to come again next year, and help bring more people out to it. The only bummer note was that Happy had no CDs for sale there for my friends to buy. I sorta tried to explain the ol' record company woes story, but that's small consolation to new fans. Let's hope she gets that flowing again - especially the older stuff, which was great to hear her play again! Thanks again to everyone involved. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Sep 2000 21:53:06 -0400 From: Michael Curry Subject: Kristy Thirsk's Western US Tour Dates From www.kristythirsk.org (where putting the entire site in a pop-up window actually struck someone as a *good* idea): Sept 14, 2000 @ 8:45pm Cobalt Lounge 32 NW 3rd Ave. Portland, OR . Hopefully one of these years you can take the concept on the road, where it might even be accessible to me on my current budget :-). A year ago this month, I attended an Indiegrrl show at the Uncommon Ground. Among the great performers on the bill was Anne Heaton. She passed out cards with her upcoming schedule, and on it I noticed that within the next week or two, she would be playing New Haven. So I obtained another copy of the schedule, and sent it to Meredith. Is the rest history? :-) By pure coincidence, my Winamp playlist (which started out as my Real Jukebox playlist, until the latter was somehow creamed in the course of trying to upgrade it to the latest release) has more tracks from Anne's CD than from any other single one. So I know whereof they speak, who praised her performance last weekend.
