Career stuff has kept me far from the realm of music, though. Regardless, I just wanted to make a general warning to the folks on the ecto webring (which I maintain) that the ring may be getting a little wacky in the near future as the Webring folks just merged with yahoo and some of the system stuff has changed. Shouldn't affect anything in the near future, but changes may be coming. So if anyone was planning on joining the ecto webring, I'd suggest holding off for the time being until things clear up and the system restabilizes itself. I am worried, though, that with the new changes the ability to design your own logo that I've allowed for the ring will become disabled, which would detract from the lovely aesthetic and independent quality of the ecto ring. If anyone has any suggestions as to a new home for the ring I would appreciate info. As was brought up in the initial debates when I started the ring a year or so ago, it seems strange for ecto's ring to be hosted by a corporate site. Likewise, if anyone has knowledge on how to implement the code necessary to run a webring off of a private server, I'd love to find out more. For all the new folks (welcome, by the way), the ecto webring was created for all list members as well as friends of independent music. I believe it currently contains about thirty sites, but I could be off on that count. Its homepage lives at www.geocities.com/kscleaves/Ectoring.html. It would seem that promiscuity and drug use are lifestyle choices that increase your risk of being exposed to it. As far as risking a child I think denial would be a huge contributing factor. It seems that AIDS has become somewhere intertwined with notions of morality - but blood transfusions or simply being born to an infected mother would appear to be morally-neutral ways of being infected. It is a sad if we think that AIDS is an external entity that punishes those who do not share the same choices as we do. AIDS did not evolve to infect people who are "bad" IMHO of course. :* Vickie... see you on napster :). - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2000 6:26 AM Subject: Re: nina > In a message dated 9/1/00 11:05:34 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > owner-ecto-digest@smoe.org writes: > > << I know Nina is weird...I've always celebrated her > weirdness...that's who she is. Lyrics below. - ------------------------------------------ The night is black Without a moon The air is thick, and still The vigilantes gather on The lonely torchlit hill Features distorted in the flickering light The faces are twisted and grotesque Silent and stern in the sweltering night The mob moves like demons possessed Quiet in conscience, calm in their right -- Confident their ways are best The righteous rise With burning eyes Of hatred and ill-will Madmen fed on fear and lies To beat, and burn, and kill They say there are strangers, who threaten us In our immigrants and infidels They say there is strangeness, too dangerous In our theatres and bookstore shelves Those who know what's best for us -- Must rise and save us from ourselves Quick to judge Quick to anger Slow to understand Ignorance and prejudice And fear Walk hand in hand - ------------------------------------------ matt - -- Matt Downer NP: Moving Pictures, Rush hachiman@io.com NR: Knowledge is power. While the weather conspired to make it a bit of a bad hair day, it was a great ear day. I came home with another cache of new music to listen to, and sweet reminders of why I listen to many of the ones I already do. I talked three friends into attending, folks who don't know Happy or any of the artists, who don't know ecto from goose poop (and I had to inform them there really is no relationship between the two :) We have this ritual of attending the Saratoga jazz festival every year, we're not necessarily big jazz fans but we've always liked the atmosphere of the event. They told me they enjoyed this much more than any such "big" festival. They also made a point to say how great the sound system sounded, I don't know those guys names but they did an outstanding job again - even despite the impromptu rearranging of the venue during the downpour. Kudos all around. They want to come again next year, and help bring more people out to it. The only bummer note was that Happy had no CDs for sale there for my friends to buy. I sorta tried to explain the ol' record company woes story, but that's small consolation to new fans. Let's hope she gets that flowing again - especially the older stuff, which was great to hear her play again! Thanks again to everyone involved. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #255 **************************
