Brunatex "Cut" A beguling record by a very intriguing band. They resemble the Cocteau Twins but the singer sings in english rather than an invented language. Fiona Scobie's voice resmebles Kate's at times and is strong. The songs are airy and catchy. Top stuff. Dagmar 41 "Unsailable" German prog lady..a bit like Dagmar Krause..quirky and individual songs..Nauticial themes throughout. anna maria np-Curlew_a beautiful western saddle(Amy Denio rules!) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The prices vary, naturally, but the ones I'd be likely to buy are usually somewhere between 25 to 30 Aussie dollars, and 30 A$ translates to somewhere around 17 - 18 U$, depending on exchange rate. So we pay a bit more, though perhaps not quite as much as we used to. Moving on, I just noticed a mention of Lisa Germano in our street mag: the article is about someone variously calling himself "eels" or just "e". The current line up of his apparently fluid band consists of certain Butch Norton, and Lisa Germano. "e" is touring in Australia at the moment, but unfortunately the article didn't make it perfectly clear whether Lisa participates in this tour as well. I wouldn't mind seeing her again, if only in support role - it's been all too many years! I am a bit suspicious of this "e" character though :) - ------------------------------------------------------ "Today I want to talk about piracy and music. What is piracy? He later put together a band, the Eels, which had a rather large hit called "Novacaine for the Soul." If you're looking for some sort of ecto-cred, If memory serves, E opened for Tori Amos the second time she blew through DC on the Little Earthquakes tour, when she played Lisner Auditorium. jeff ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 09:23:31 -0400 From: cjmacs Subject: ectofest 2000 hi all! i know many of you have been waiting patiently for any info on what's going on with ectofest... the show will be happening as planned on september 2nd. there have been A LOT of obstacles this year and i'm truly sorry that this is all so last minute. as far as who is appearing, i will be announcing names VERY soon... ;-) stay tuned to the website, too! chuck www.ectofest.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 10:43:01 -0500 From: "Mattoon, Melanie" Subject: (Fairly) New CDs I've been listening to a couple of very good cds recently and thought I'd continue the music posting trend with my own additions. Tracy Bonham - Down Here I loved her first album and didn't know what to expect from the new one because I had been hearing about its release for months and the date kept changing. It finally came out and it's really quite wonderful. Her voice is strong on most of the tracks like it was on The Burdens of Being Upright, but on my favorite song Second Wind, she really shows how quietly beautiful it can be as well. Other standout tracks are Freed, Fake It, and Give Us Something to Feel. Ginny Owens - Without Condition Although she's labeled as a "Modern Christian" artist, don't let that turn you off if you don't usually like Christian music. This is not a Gospel album. It's a folky, rock-n-roll album that just happens to be about religion. Nothing feels preachy here though. Some of my favorites are I Want To Be Moved, Free, and the title track. I can't get this one out of my player! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 11:37:11 -0400 From: rich.rapp@effem.com Subject: Project Lo (w/Happy) @ Tin Angel From the Tin Angel in Phila. website.... Subject: Kathryn Williams; and an old friend returns in a new guise Two things: Kathryn Williams' album "Little Black Numbers", which I've mentioned before, has caused a stir by being shortlisted for the Mercury Music prize. A big thing is being made about it being self-produced for 3000 pounds and how she's so young and poor she still uses her student railcard to get to her own gigs, but I still think there's a big PR job behind this very nice little album 2) A hip-hop version of Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown", anyone? Couldn't believe it, have no idea who perpetrated it. But, as I heard similar treatment meted out to Kansas' "Dust in the Wind", it comes as little surprise. Hope Gordon's making some money off of it, though np --I'm With Stupid -- Aimee Mann nr -- Day of the Locust -- Nathaneal West ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #217 **************************
