Anyway, I spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears on this and >I want you to love it.... ! so there you go. i don't think it's as guitary as she makes it sound, blistering to me means MBV or Sonic Youth, but i guess by comparison to some it may as be. i bought it on a whim out of the import bin at tower, it looked interesting and was not too spendy. maybe if it sounds good to you, you'll be lucky & find it too? :) -veronica ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 03:00:03 -0400 (EDT) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ******************* Mark R. My opinion on the new Sinead album is that this is the best thing she's done in ages. Daddy I'm Fine is great to shout along to,the quiet songs are great to listen to. The State I'm In got stuck in my head immediatly. No, its not as good as her first..But when I heard that I was eighteen and it became the soundtrack to my life in a way a new album by Sinead cant be. The Lion is still one of my desert island discs. I still remember the shock of seeing the Troy video in a shop..Who was that creature with the volcanic voice I wondered? "And i will rise like a phoenix from the flame"..Trite words maybe but no one has ever sung them better. On the subject of Hotel california..My loathing of said song was born when I heard it played by bar guitarists in the 80's. every place i went to they had that damn song..And those lyrics..What pray is a Tiffany twist? To get to better songs..swedish band Indisicplined Lucy's album About the Black eyed Girl is worth looking into for prog fans. It's a concept album about a girl who wants to save the world..Bowieesque vocals and King Crimsony atmosphere. amazon.com has it. they appear to be broken up sadly. You're not alone in loathing "Hotel California" - nails on a chalkboard to me. Perfectly good music with horribly unnecessary lyrics (usually sung by the Manhattan Transfer). Important assertion: Carmen McRae recorded a CD a while back "Carmen Sings Monk" (Not to confused with the other best-seller, "Monks Sing 'Carmen'"). Not a klunker in the bunch... Round Midnight had words written shortly after Monk composed it, the others got lyrics later... No justification in liking those and absolutely despising the others, 'cept to say that the others are lame. Maybe it had to do with the fact that she was friends with Monk (i.e., knew him... respected him... had some idea of what the f$%* was going on).
