An alphabetical list of the performers is listed here: http://www.nwfolklife.org/P_F/SPerfo.html. The festival has no admission charge but encourages donations. Here are the shows that stand out to me for the ecto audience: Aiko Shimada Band (SAT 5:40PM - 6:10PM Flag Plaza) Jill Cohn Band (MON 11:55AM - 12:50PM Bagley Wright Lawn) Persephone's Circle (KBCS SUN 2:20PM - 2:50PM Rainier Room) Susan Court (SAT 6:00PM - 6:40PM SC Pavilion Courtyard and SS Showcs. SUN 6:30PM - 6:55PM Rainier Room) Willow (FRI 6:00PM - 6:50PM Bagley Wright Lawn) and there's another Persephone's Circle performance Sunday at the Alibi Room in Pike Place Market at 8:30pm $5 which will be my first performance reading poetry with the Circle). - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 18:29:48 EDT From: RavFlight@aol.com Subject: More Commercial Questions Alright, so I'm adding 2 more questions to the never-ending lot of "what is the song on that show/commercial". I admit that neither are really 'ecto' songs..but we're all pretty hip up on different music..so I have to ask. The first is another VW commercial that is in the same line as the vapor adds..it's a rap song, with a pretty funky soulful groove to it..very cool. I dont' remember the kind of car, but it's a yellow one and everyone is walking by looking at it. The second commercial, I can't even remember the car company (could be Honda or Toyota..but not sure), but it was a Brit-Rock sounding song with the lines..."The way that you walk. It's just the way that you talk like it ain't no thing" (or something close to that). At the same time, it shows a picture of the car rotating around, and says 'For:Republicans', then crosses it out..'For Democrats', then crosses it out again, then 'For Independents'. Well, if these are both pretty vague, and you want to merely sweep them under the carpet, that is fair..but I had to go through the grapevine and at least give myself a shot at figuring these things out. Thanks again. A week for ectophiles in London, where the Spitz (located in = Spitalfields Market) has become the epicentre of ectodom. Thursday the = 25th sees Imogen Heap playing, and Monday the 29th sees Cat Power (has = someone mentioned her? It seems familiar and Time Out were most = complimentary) with Barefoot Contessa as support. Yes, Anna, it seems = they have a new album out, "Oh, The Sweet Power". I might check it out = on Monday, but I have work the next day and the last time i saw a gig at = the Spitz (Ashely Maher, whose new cd is winging its way to me as I = write) it ended so late I had to walk home, which was no small distance. = Also reviewed in this week's Time Out is a release by someone called = Kathryn Williams, "Little Black Numbers", and the review invokes a = Drake/Denny comparison -- could be interesting ecto fodder, there. Meanwhile, I've been listening to the Witness cd quite a lot, and = recommend it highly --- it's beautiful, moody & haunting. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 22:22:32 +0100 From: "Adam Kimmel" Subject: Better sounds, stoned. Personally, I think the joys of this group is the tangents that can be = launched into -- it's a discussion group, with music at its centre, and = sometimes the ripples just carry us outwards. Having said that --- I used to have a lot of Hawkwind, enjoyed it enough = straight. Then, one day, I dropped acid and put on their live album. =20 Suddenly, it all seemed to make so much more sense, as if the music (and = even the album cover) had been specifically designed for that purpose. I realise, however, that this is extreme and inadvisable, and should = point out that I never tried it again. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 19:29:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Better sounds, stoned. The first time I put on _Limbo_ by Throwing Muses for a friend, he immediately commented that it sounded like music sounded to him when he was stoned, except he was sober. He shortly bought everything he could find by Throwing Muses and Kristen Hersh. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 20:39:02 -0500 From: Mitch Pravatiner Subject: Clip of Tara MacLean available on the web The website http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/114/tara_maclean.html?cp=tara has clips of Tara MacLean performing live, and of an interview with her, along with some biographical information.
