A friend of mine sent me this URL to an article in the San Fran Bay Guardian. Here is the teaser: "The boring, beautiful future The debate about MP3 technology is heated, anarchistic, and hyperbolized beyond belief - and it's all wedded to the idea of music as a commodity. But the biggest payoffs of music on the Net will be artistic. " Here is the link: http://www.sfbg.com/AandE/34/32/boring.html The article is worth reading especially if you are a musician interested in getting your stuff out there... - - Russ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 12:40:21 -0600 (MDT) From: Neal Copperman Subject: amusing ectopage byproducts I very rarely get any e-mail from having my name show up at various places on the ectophiles guide. Dear Charley's Records & Tapes, I stumbled upon a discription of your store on a website this afternoon while searching for hard-to-find CDs. Your e-mail was with the discription, so I hope you don't mind me mailing you. I have been searching for two CDs for over three years without any luck. The ones I'm looking for are titled: BOOMERANG and MMMBOP. They were independently released in 1995 and 1996 by the brother group, Hanson. If you have these CDs or know where to find them, please let me know as soon as possible! Thank you for your time! I have a catalogue of my CD collection on-line, and very frequently get e-mails from people with all sorts of requests, anywhere from "can you make a copy of such-and-such for me", to legitimate queries of where to find hard-to-get discs, to people interested in chatting about a given work or artist. Which is kind of neat. But it still blows my mind when people I know nothing about flat out ask me to make MP3s for them. Technology has two edges. And, for the obligatory music content, my ecto pal Anna Maria has introduced me to Sweden's Louise Hoffsten, and I am totally addicted to her, particularly her later, more bluesy stuff. I've heard that she has tried to break into the US market but it didn't quite pan out. And I've also heard that she may be fighting a battle with M.S. (the illness). Sad news on both counts. Check her music out though, for I think she has the traits of an ecto goddess. I suggest _Beautiful but why?_ as a first buy. - - Bill G. np: Merril Bainbridge - The Garden nr: Alan Lightman - Dance for Two (Essays) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 13:48:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Damon des Jumeaux Subject: funny guide story ok, this was just weird. i've had a single of melissa ferrick's `happy song' for quite some time, and i always liked it (not just the song, but the style, the voice..) and mf has been on my `hm... maybe buy it if it's cheap so you can hear more' list forever. recently i visited a second hand cd store for the first time in however long, and am once again quite gung ho about scouring these places. though he prices aren't so much better than new, at least here in vancouver! so i was compiling a list of things i've been interested in for a while and should look for, and mf came up. i decided to do a little looking on the guide and see which recordings were recommended. imagine my surprise as i was reading through and found a comment from myself under _willing to wait_! i still don't really remember hearing that album, but i figure by logical deduction that i must have listened to a copy ariane had, as i can't think of anyone else i know who would likely have her stuff. wow! the guide as personal archaeology! someday i really have to go through the whole thing and write comments specifically for it, to replace all the extremely outdated ones in there now... - -damon Damon Harper des Jumeaux _/\_ "The Prophecy didn't say damon@jumeaux.bc.ca __\ /__ anything about this!" - Jen Les Jums: jumeaux@jumeaux.bc.ca \ / "Prophets don't know every- http://www.jumeaux.bc.ca/damon/ |/||\| thing!" - Kira, _Dark Crystal_ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 17:56:27 EDT From: "Datura Child" Subject: Mists of Avalon Movie...? >-----Original Message----- >From: Gil Johnson >Sent: Thu, 11 May 2000 13:43:06 -0400 >To: mythosidhe@witchcraft.i-p.com >Subject: TNT Avalon... > > HREF="http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/05-11-2000/0001215892&EDATE=" >TARGET="_new">COLOR="BLUE">http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/05-11-2000/0001215892&EDATE= > >I know this isn't strictly ecto related, but I thought it might be of >interest to any Marion Zimmer Bradley fans out there. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 18:03:40 -0400 From: dave Subject: AREA wild damonials asked concerning AREA: > soooo, i was wondering if anyone here had gotten the new releases of > between purple and pink or fragments of the morning, > and could send me the lyrics- > i'd hate to buy the new cds just to get them.
