Back after a very restful easter. Have been listening to some new stuff.. Madrugada "Industrial Silence" Norwegian rock..brings Nick Cave and Gun Club to mind. Emotional, intense and powerful stuff. Pity their best track, the Cohenesque Riverbed is only a b-side. Gina Jacobi"Det här är bara början" The swedish Kate. An old album of hers that mixes pop with world music nicely. Currently unsigned. Curse the record companies! Neko Case and her Boyfriends "Furnace Room Lullaby" Alt.country by a very talented lady. Better than all the Shanias of this world. Whipping Boy. Promo of a band that's been gone so long I was worried they'd quit..Not so. This forthcoming album is as good as Heartworm if anyone recalls that. (but there's a picture of her "treating" her guitar with a napkin at http://www.pathetic-caverns.com/music/markphoto.html) all of his was enough to get me to order a copy of _still_, garner & brown's current release, sight unseen. it apparently includes "re-working" of material recorded over several years time, including, i think, some run on material. lots of things have been clamoring for my attention, including many things i have to review for snap-pop!, which unlike my pathetic caverns, has real publication deadlines, and i haven't, sadly, had a chance to spin it yet. - -- d. ps. oh yeah, she was in the shams with amy rigby, too. also fish & roses. np phaser "skydive" On Mon, 24 Apr 2000, neal copperman wrote: > > Anyone know anything about Sue Garner and Rick Brown? She co-wrote a few of the songs with Daniel Lanois and one song features Emmylou Harris on backup vocals. Overall, it's no big departure for her--but the songs are great and very appropriate to her personality. I also really like Ute Lemper's latest--though it's so dramatic. Still I like it a lot--especially the track Little Water Song--I just love the strings on that track. The last track, Scope J, is very strange but very compelling. Have to thank whoever first mentioned Caecillie Norby's latest and Anna-Maria for helping me track it down. Wow! I liked her first album a lot, but thought some of the covers were a little odd. This album is all originals, and although I don't usually like the smooth vocal jazz thing, this album is fantastic. Especially like the track Newborn Broken, but there really isn't a bad song on the album. Jeff Hanson n.p. Marianne Faithfull - Vagabond Ways n.r.
