Aimee Mann answered a rather unrevealing questionnaire (it's a regular feature, and the questions are always the same) in yesterday's Guardian here in London, and while I'm not sure how much it would interest people, here it goes: Q: Have you ever adoped a pseudonym and, if so, why? A:Only when I'm chcking into a hotel and the road manager thinks a fan might stalk me. Q: Have you ever lied about your age and, if so, why? A: When I was 15, to get into bars. Q:How would you describe yourself in a lonely hearts ad? A:Single white female seeks single white male with at least 10 years' therapy. Except I'm married so I wouldn't place an ad. Q:What was the last illegal thing you did? A: jaywalked in LA. That's a serious risk. A friend of mine got a ticket for it on Christmas Eve. Q:What was the last kindhearted thing you did? A: Voluntarily game my manager a 5% raise. Q:Who's the nicest person you've ever worked with? A: Tom Cruise. He's the nicest guy in the universe and he's unbelievably approachable. It might all be an act, of course. Q:What are the initials of the most unpleasant person you've ever worked with? A:JI. Someone in the music industry. Q:Has a critic ever made you cry? A:No, so far my reviews have all been good. Q:What would you advertise without a fee? A:The electric car. I want to stop the greenhouse effect. Q:What would you never advertise? A:Guns Q:What wakes you up screaming at night? A:I was in a bad car accident a while ago which still makes me frightened. I don't scream, though. Q:What takes you to a happy place? A: Getting off the Eurostar and driving through London. Forget Paris, London is the place. Well, that was it. Still hoping that, if she loves England so much, she might tour here or, even, release her new album here (it's on sale at the US Amazon site, but not the UK). np - Noa - Calling nr - As She Climbed Across the Table - Jonathan Lethem ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2000 18:40:17 -0400 From: meredith Subject: bjork the actor? From what I've read, Björk at first was resistant to the idea of playing, but she was writing and performing I believe all of the music and apparently the director didn't think it made sense for her NOT to be singing her own songs, and it obviously wouldn't be believable to have, say, Minnie Driver or some other glamorous-yet-still-respectable actresses doing all the acting and then lip-synching to what is very obviously and singularly Björk's voice... so he got her to do it. The soundtrack will be released as more or less this year's Björk album, though we won't get the proper/"official" follow-up to the brilliant _Homogenic_ until 2001. Oh well, I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I adore Björk, and Catherine Deneuve is just classy. They're playing her song "Falling For You" on my college station here (incessantly), and god I love it. It's been a while I've gotten this excited about a song I've heard on the radio (perhaps this is also because I never listen to it). Anyhow, apparently the song's on the High Fidelity soundtrack, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything else about this chick? I'm always in the mood for a new discovery. - -- Mark Miazga miazgama@msu.edu http://go.to/MarkMiazga 143 West Akers Hall, MSU East Lansing, MI 48825 (517) 353-4936 http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama Program Coordinator, The Common Grounds Coffeehouse http://www.TheCommonGrounds.com ** Info line: (517) 353-5057 Academic and Social Activities Coordinator of Akers Hall. Anyone out there familiar with the music of Helen Watson or knows what she's up to? She had a minor hit over here a few years ago with £100 Watch, a really excellent single off of an album called "Companion Girl", but that was back in '92. It's a really decent album, and I was interested in hearing more, but she seems to have gone quiet.
