Found a great review site that will do a feature on Emily Bezar soon..http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/rwelliot/. They write about female artists that are very ecto. Most recently Rachael Sage. Have got an album by Emer Kenney that is very likable and sort of like Enya if she wasn't so dull. Includes a great version of the Stranglers Golden Brown. I'd recommend it to folk lovers. Some vocals in gaelic. I highly recommend anyone in these areas take in these performances. Joy has never officially toured this area of the country (other than the memorable 1998 Living Room Tour shows) & this is a great opportunity to listen to her live in a comfortable setting. Other dates will be announced, but area Ectophiles can mark these three on your calendars: Thursday, June 1: Koffee, New Haven, CT (on Whitney Ave) Saturday, June 3: The Living Room, NYC Sunday, June 4: Fire & Water, Northampton, MA As Joy's June tour approaches & more confirmed dates are known, I'll pass em on. If you've only heard her name & you're curious about her, head over to www.joyedenharrison.com & have a look & listen. I'm new to the list, and I was wondering if anyone else who listens to the public radio show Echoes thinks they should play some Tori Amos every once in a while. Her ambient B-sides like "The Pool" from the Winter ep and the "Scarlet Spectrum Feels" remix of "Raspberry Swirl" on the "Cruel" single, as well as tracks from To Venus and Back like "Lust" and "Suede" sound fabulous mixed in with Dead Can Dance and Tangering Dream. Currently I was thinking about just sending out Stephanie Hewett and along the way at each show seeing if the host knew of a local musician they wanted to have "co-headline". Would you be interested in the first of July? - ----------------------------- I am currently working with Stephanie Hewett to hear her music via MP3 or more infor check out her website at www.stephaniehewett.com. There are some people born into this world with a special talent as a musician. As the years pass, life seeks to find this talent and ignite its expression. For Stephanie, music lives inside her spirit and is released through thythm and harmony of her songs. Born in rural Kansas Stephanie grew up in a small farming community. She began piano lessons at age 5 and drew inspiration from jazz and rock classics, the sound Stephanie would later claim as her own was emerging. It was during college that longed to leave the orchestra, where she played a bass, and let loose to experiment without boundaries. Stephanie broke away from what she felt were the stiff rules of standard music and is currently working on a new album due out this summer. - ------------------------------- A Living Room Show is an informal concerts, usually in people's homes, where 20 or more people can sit comfortably to enjoy an initmate concert. Its a great way to bring a musician to your town. You Provide: Space that can fit at 20 or more folks comfortable. Can be in your home or even a local community center, meeting space, your garage, or outside. 20 or more music-loving guests ($10 suggested donation per person) Electricity, help unloading and other small tasks the day of the concert. Maybe drinks and/or food. Maybe not. E-mail me with any questions you might have or for a few various ideas about how to set up a show check out these websites. http://www.island.net/~oldfolk/housecon.htm http://alanr.lpl.org/ProductionTips.html http://ifolk.org/hc/houseconcerts-02.html#TopOfPage Thanks, Duff ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2000 21:05:32 -0400 From: "Power, Marc (ETS - Equity Development Support)" Subject: Greetings pop pickers and introducing Jenny Bruce Greetings ectoplasmic ones, I unsubscribed a while back when people seemed to be breaking out the napalm. I hope that's all over now and that cordial relations between all have been restored. Anyhow, I wanted to know if people on the ecto list know of New York City Artist, Jenny Bruce? I have had the opportunity to see her perform and she has a beautiful mellifluous voice, writes great songs with interesting melodies, performed with style and wit. In short, everything that Ectophiles love. It doesn't hurt that she is articulate, pretty, intelligent and very charming too. (OK Jenny, my Swiss bank a/c # is .......... ) So, I was chatting to her the other day and I thought of ecto, ectofest etc, (she would be excellent for the next one, Meth?) and figured she would be a good match with ecto (unlike my band, BORN to GO), so you can expect her to turn up here anyday now (unless she beat me to it). Of course, if she does, and you send her email, or talk to here at a performance, remember, do not talk about Blinis, absolutely no Blini talk, you lot. Got that? None whatsoever. And I certainly didn't tell you to mention them. Oh no, not me! So if you don't know of her, click right over to http://www.goodgirl.com where she claims to be a good girl. I believe her. All the very best, Marc. Anyone who is thoroughly reckless can check out my own extremely non ecto-compliant band BORN to GO here: http://www.iuma.co/IUMA/Bands/BORN_to_GO ------------------------------ Date: 18 Apr 2000 19:10:59 -0700 From: John Drummond Subject: Re: Tori on Echoes > Hey out there! Why hello there, "Datura Child"... curiously enough, I do recall having heard Tori several times in the past few years... I heard the line "mirror mirror where's the crystal palace but i only can see myself" from "Winter" on Echoes in the backseat my parents' car in December of 1993, and it stuck with me, and so I ended up buying _Little Earthquakes_ shortly thereafter... the rest is history... "Doughnut Song" I heard several times, as well as "Pretty Good Year" and "Bells For Her"... I'm sure they've played more than just that as well, but I don't listen to the show regularly enough to know for sure.
