Here's what I heard: Hmm. I know that Vickie, once upon a time, handed out a number of copies of the 1st3 lyrics with corrections. There are some pretty funny things in there... (these were my initial attempts at transcribing the first three albums in 3/91; I e-mailed 'em to mjm, who printed them and inserted corrections; he them gave them to Vickie for a final going-over. After that, they were passed back to Happy who straightened out the bits we had missed, and inserted comments like "Were you on drugs?" for some of our guesses. At the 3/92 show in Philly, Vickie handed out some copies of what Happy sent back to her.) jeff n.p. _Animals_, Pink Floyd ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2000 09:16:12 EST From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: mishearings can't think of any good misheard lyrics right now (though i know i've mistaken lots of stuff) but thought i would send a piece of misheard conversation that was (imo) pretty funny. a group of us was sitting around over pizza at work. someone was talking about a woman with trichitillomania who used to work here who had no eyebrows. she consistently plucked them out. i sat in horror, alarmed and very confused, until i asked someone to repeat the story. i thought the woman had no eyeballs. actually i remember reading a debate over the lyrics to paula cole's "where have all the cowboys gone." the line is (i think) where is my marlboro man where is my (his?) prairie son actually, i don't think those are the lyrics, but i haven't heard the song in a while and i can't think right now. (too little sleep, too little coffee) anyway, the point was, some people thought it was "prairie sod" and some thought "prairie dog". therefore, they took the song to *really* be an environmentalist manifesto and about the destruction of the wildlife in the american west. ummmm....... For any Michigan ecto-folks, don't miss Melissa Ferrick performing live one week from today -- Wednesday, March 29. She's playing at The Common Grounds Coffeehouse in East Lansing on the campus of Michigan State University. If you've never seen Melissa Ferrick live, you're missing out. She's an amazing performer. Anyone heard the new album yet? Here's a review of a recent concert she gave in New York, published on the Femmusic.com e-magazine: "The crowd rose to their feet for Melissa Ferrick. Girlie shrieks cut through the hot air, and people were now bunched together like mismatched socks. Ferrick, the fast-talking, anxiety-riddled, folkie with a hint of ol’ Dixie ripped into her set, letting her fans do some singing. Her spindly fingers criss crossed over each other, as Ferrick went through freaky epileptic-like musical seizures. The good stuff will do that to you. Her sound is part Ani Di Franco, part Melissa Etheridge, and part Dave Matthews. Ferrick’s intensity and concentration shows a woman constantly calculating every atom of nervous energy. ... Ferrick is a phenomenal creature." Melissa Ferrick has been selling out clubs all around the country, and this is her only date in Michigan. Co-sponsored by the Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered Students, the Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse, and the MSU Folksong Society, the show is the kickoff event of Pride Week 2000. Local favorites Lori Amey and Half Looking will open the show. Tickets are $3 for MSU students w/ student ID, $10 for non-MSU students, and $7 for Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse members w/ ID. We will surely be sending out another update before the show, but don'tmake any other plans for next Wednesday the 29th. This is not a show to miss -- Melissa Ferrick is a fabulous performer and a dazzling guitarist. Doors open promptly at 7:30, and we recommend you get here early to get a good seat. She's an amazing performer. Anyone heard the new album yet? I think I mentioned this before, but she'll also be at Iota in Arlington, VA on 4/9. (Anyone know if Iota sells advance tickets? don't want to miss this one...I missed her the last several times she was in dc) I pre-ordered the disc from CDNow and it arrived last Thursday. I don't think it's as strong as the last two studio albums, but it's still quite amazing. Lots of stand-out tracks, including "North Carolina" and "The Stranger." Mmmmm. New Ferrick.
