On the subject of Kurt Weill..One of the best versions of Pirate Jenny is the one by Nina Simone..So much emotion and anger. Marianne Faifull's version is also tops as well as her Surabaya Johnny. A swedish band called Imperiet covered that song and did a nice version of it. That their singer was male added some interesting dimesions to the lyric. Michelle Cross is terrific. But I do hope she relases some more live sounding versions of her songs in the future. I got a mail from her that mentioned she was taking her songs to various labels looking for a record deal and that her new stuff was gonna blow everyone away. Let's hope so. Currently eagerly anticiapting the Ute album..Think its going to be one of the best this year. Anna Maria np-Pram-Sargasso Sea __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I wish I knew all the artists they played during the weather, going into commercial, etc...one song sounded like The Nields. It got me wondering, what other programs have an ecto sense of music? ==> Valerie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 08:29:10 -0500 From: "cjmacs" Subject: Re: susan mckeown at the towne crier hi all! paul blair wrote: > March 17: Susan McKeown and the Chanting House at the Towne Crier, > Pawling NY (a bit of a jaunt northwards, say an hour, but reachable > if you have a car. Anyone know how reachable it is if you don't?). metro-north train service can take you all the way to the patterson station (just north of brewster north) which is a five minute cab ride away from the crier. however, service past brewster north is irregular so if anyone goes that route, it's imperative that you check metro-morth's schedule. it would be easier to get off at brewster north, but then you'll have a fifteen minute cab ride (which probably will cost close to $25). if anyone is seriously considering coming up to the crier by train, i'd be happy to pick you up at either station since we'll be driving right by both, the only caveat being that we have dinner reservations for the show at 7pm... chuck ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 07:05:18 -0800 From: "Brian Errickson" Subject: Virginia Rodrigez Since I am new to ecto...has Virginia Rodriguez ever been mentioned? I was listening to a public station the other day and heard a song in Portuguese with the absolute most enchantingly bare and crystalline clear voice. Clear and simple like Suzanne Vega's voice but a completely different style. I found out it was Virginia Rodriguez. I bought her CD Nos and am so pleased. I listen to many things and have never heard anything like her. Is anyone familiar? She has several CD's and I want to know if they are worth it? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 09:49:46 -0500 (EST) From: Peter Chekan Subject: Ashes to Ashes Can you help me find the alblum "Rhodesongs", or the EP HR-5?
