First I'll forward a message from Chris.. I got to see Karling Abbeygate and the Monks of Love at the Java Jivecoffee shop in Spartanburg, SC. They were booked in at the last minute anddid not have a very good turn out but, they still put on a very good show. The description I heard here..."the witchy little sister of Kate Bush"seems very appropriate...in a Lionhearty sort of way. She looks a lot likeKatetoo! They were in the midst of an extended tour. They were a very friendly bunch. I believe they said they were now based in Portland OR. Not100% sure about it though. When I spoke to Karling after the show, I asked her if she everlistened to Happy. She said she had never heard of her. Maybe by now she has... ==========================Chris Stackcstack@dbtronics.com ==========================Understanding that whichis at our door is the first step towardsunderstanding that whichlies beyond. -Hypatia ========================== Have finally ordered a record by Wendy Rule and she is really special. Zero reminds me of Margot Smith But also lush textures like the Cocteaus and Katey vocals at times.Very lovely stuff. Then I got Xyra and Verborgens ep Shadows of Light.. They call their music "cabaret rock noveau" which it is..Very Nicoesque vocals from Xyra who sings a tribute to Nico and covers one of her songs.A very european cabarety band with progressive touches. They have just done an album called Frightening Beauty. While it's nice to receive an "award", we've refused all offers so far to have commercial links to the site other than those leading to information about the artists we're talking about. I'd like to know what everyone thinks of this before I follow my instinct which is to say "thanks but no thanks". Maybe just add the award link?? Please let me know what you think. When last we joined our story, I had been working with memories of Oregon. I finally found the tape, under "m" for "Mostly Oregon". WOW!!! I totally forgot about the tabla use and the overall flow. Delightful!!! I went to Borders looking for Oregon In Concert(1974) and found it was a CD once upon a time but is now out of print. The only Oregon they had was something from 1996. Mentions of where best to find out-of-print(oop) cds made here have been ignored by me in the past. Just got the "cheaper than food" Nordic Roots II for $2.99 list. Someone please tell me: is the Garmarna cut on this typical of whatever album it is from, and, is the album typical of their others?? (also: is it Gar mar na or Garm ar na?) The "award link" is just a link to the main britannica.com web site, and if it didn't have the work "award" on it, it would be just another banner ad. In fact, I can't even find a list of the winners on their web site. This looks like the standard banner exchange to me. I think you all have done an amazing job with the guide; it is an amazing resource that stands strongly on its own merits. We hardly need the Britannica marketing folks (read: encyclopedia salesmen) to reaffirm that. Maybe just add the award link?? Uh, does britannica.com offer any information that's *relevant* to ectophiles guide surfers -- in-depth biographies of, say, Kate Bush or Tori Amos? Otherwise, I'd say, forget it! Now, if we could persuade britannica.com to add informative profiles of Emily Bezar, Mary Lydia Ryan, Susan Court, Veda Hille, and some of our other obscure ecto faves, go for it ;) *That* would be useful content! By the way, a second track from FOUR WALLS BENDING has been uploaded to MP3.com, so if you haven't yet bought the CD and want to sample 2 songs, go to http://www.mp3.com and search for "bezar." - --Sue Trowbridge * albany, california trow@slip.net * http://www.interbridge.com np: Jason Falkner, RARITIES nr: Donna Andrews, MURDER WITH PEACOCKS ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #30 *************************
