Pravatiner" Subject: Final thought on the latest brouhaha Intuitively I think that people's position on the newsgroup gateway issue is ultimately based on how much harm, or at least nuisance, they themselves have experienced, that they attribute to the existence of the gateway. I have not experienced any, and so I support the continuation of the status quo. BTW, the Tower website, www.towerrecords.com, sells Happy's old AG catalog, though turnaround may be slower than for current releases. Mailing list exploders, mailing list gateways, and such things are facts of life and have been since mailing lists were invented. No one on the list knows how many, if any, mailing list exploders are subscribed to ecto (for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, an exploder is basically a sub-list... for example, I could create a list called ecto@3com.com that has a dozen of my co-workers subscribed to it, and then I could subscribe that list to ecto... one email address on ecto@smoe.org, but a dozen or more readers.) Ecto has been gatewayed almost from the beginning, since it was born from Love-Hounds which was also gatewayed. On a more ecto-y note, I have an extra brand new unopened copy of a Heather Nova CD, either Blow or Siren, I forget which is the duplicate, I think Siren. I'd like to offer to give it to someone who has heard about her, but doesn't yet own any of her music. First Ectonian to speak up gets it. - -Ken D ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2000 17:07:31 +1100 From: Andrew Fries Subject: testing, testing... A friend of mine has generously agreed to host some of my files on his server. But since his machine is a mid-range pentium sitting in his kitchen (and running Windows NT - yuck!), I'm not entirely sure what sort of performance to expect... So, combining testing and showcasing of the local talent, I uploaded an mp3 from one of my favourite local bands: Something Urban. For what it's worth, Something Urban were listed as one of my hottest discoveries of last year, and it's a lovely, simple and wistful indie-pop song. If you'd like to hear it, head to and please let me know if you encounter any difficulties! - ------------------------------------------------------ "Circus dogs jump when the trainer cracks the whip, but the really well-trained dog is the one that turns somersaults when there is no whip." --George Orwell - ------ http://www.zip.com.au/~afries/hall.html ------- ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #13 *************************
