I loved that movie as a teenager. The whole premise - being utterly alone in an empty world - was of course terribly compelling at that age. :) Funny you should mention it, though, as I'm leaving today for a holiday in New Zealand, where the film was shot. Wheee! Have a great new century, everyone! Hopefully it'll be more positive and groovy than the current one. I know it's sort of simplistic and naive, but I really am hoping that humankind will have the sense that we're starting *out* on something new, rather than charging inexorably towards the *end* of something. And have a more positive and less destructive outlook on life accordingly. (This is also the one that will be appearing on Evensong's compilation album, which will also feature an Innocence Mission track. See .) Jade Ell - "Promises and Prayers"...I'm not quite sure what I love so much about this album but I just cannot stop playing it...Jade's voice is hypnotic...combined with the sparse production...sometimes jazzy, sometimes poppy, sometimes folky...it just works for me 2. Lene Marlin - "Playing My Game" - The best pure pop record that I have heard in a long while...If "Unforgivable Sinner" made it onto the airwaves here it would get played to death (I'm hoping it doesn't) 3. House of Red - "self titled" - Any fans of Grey Eye Glances/October Project should check them out 4. Brenda Weiler - "Crazy Happy" 5. Fiona Apple - "when the pawn etc..." 6. Shonna Brown - "Deluge" 7. Emily Bezar - "Four Walls Bending" 8. Tekla - "Somebody Else" 9. Beth Orton - "Central Reservation" 10. Axelle Red - "Tojours Moi" - My new french chanteuse sensation...dont know what she's singing about but it doesn't matter I've also got to make mention of the song most likely to get listened to on repeat in the past year- "All About the Money" by Meja Five others who may have made it onto the list if i had their cd's earlier in the year: Dido, Povi, Ivana Santilli, Veda Hille, and Curio Best finds of the year that I wish I would have bought sooner so they could have been included in a previous top ten list: edwige - "you show them the moon and they look at your finger" rachel sage - "smashing the serene" babacar - "self titled" susan court - "high relief" mila drumke - "illinois" imogen heap - "i megaphone" annika bentley - "see you around, lifeguard" Happy Holidays All :) - -Jason ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #419 **************************
