Don't miss this! Or, maybe, somebody else whose last name she can't say right? Bichsell? Anyway, this was wonderful. I'd never heard Susan Court before, and I like her. Anyone who sings "Inchworm, Inchworm" is OK by me (I was singing it walking down the street the other day - heh). Plus she sang an incredibly catty anti-Tori song that was quite clever - there are some Tori-esque feelings to her music, but her lyrics are more straightforward and accessible. I immediately bought her CD, and can't wait for the next one, due, as she said, "hopefully some time in the next 5 years." Yay! It had damn well better be sooner--her new material is wonderful, and I'd like to see what she does with it in the studio. I'm going to have to try to record one of her solo shows soon just so I can hear these in between shows. Anyway, it was indeed a wonderful show even though she kept apologizing for her voice not quite being up to snuff after lugging her 100 lb. electric piano upstairs. I thought her voice sounded great! Anyway, Kat, I was there, too! I was lost in one of those deep chairs at the back of the crowd. So ... There will be an Ecto gathering in Kristiansand, Norway the first week of July year 2000. I'm sure some of us will attend the festival going on that week, but if you just want to relax that is fine too. The camp itself will be in and around my family's summer house on an island outside the town in a very beautiful area (Marion can second that, but she is not here right now if I'm not totally wrong). More info about both the festival and how to get there early next year - I just wanted to give you guys time to both save up money, and to bribe your boss into giving you that week off :) I hope to get Velvet Belly to visit during the week, and I know that Kings of Convenience will be there. I got some time to get things sorted out now that I'm so early with things. Give me a hint if you want to come even though you don't know if you can come yet. *hugs* - -- Yngve, who is very much looking forward to this already :) n.r. CJ Cherryh - Fever Season (Merovingen Nights #2) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 11:42:31 -0600 From: "Matt Bittner" Subject: Omaha Happy Happenings It took me awhile to come up with that subject line. ;-) First of all, an explanation. For those who don't know, Samson - Happy's label - is owned by Gold Circle Entertainment (GCE) here, in Omaha. Gold Circle recently bought a local radio station, 106.9, "The City". They claim to be free format, and so far they are. Anyway, GCE's Holiday party is tonight, and guess who's coming to town to play it? Yup, Happy. Well, guess who's playing in the studio tomorrow? Yup, Happy. When I heard the morning "jocks" announce they were having Happy Rhodes in the studio, man did I light up! And that's all they said. Didn't let on to anything else. So, I decided to call the station for more info. That's where I found out about tonight, and tomorrow. Just out of curiousity I asked if anybody could come to their Holiday party. Drat, no. However, the woman I talked to - the afternoon DJ - *she* suggested I talk to the morning DJ's and maybe they would let me into the studio during Happy's set. YES!!! While I won't know for sure until tomorrow morning, this - - you can understand - made my day. I am psyched beyond belief. Now I can finally suggest starting up a full-blown tour... ;-) Matt Bittner np - yes, I just had to - _building the colossus_ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? JoAnn coincidentally, np: Tori to venus and back, disc 1 NEW YORK (AP) - NBC is deciding whether it will ever rerun a "Saturday Night Live" skit after a Jewish group complained that the parody of pop stars singing Hanukkah songs was offensive. The sketch, which aired Dec. 4, featured impersonators of pop stars Britney Spears, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey in a mock network promo explaining why they were appearing on an imaginary Hanukkah TV special. The Spears character, portrayed by actress Christina Ricci, says that Christians have forgiven Jews for "having killed our Lord." The Dion character refers to Jews owning all the movie studios and banks. "It stepped over the line," said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith. "It wasn't funny and it was offensive and it plugged into some classic anti-Semitic canards. Our switchboards lit up." Foxman complained to Rosalyn Weinman, NBC's top broadcast standards executive, who replied in a letter that the pop star parody "was problematic and, therefore, will be excised from all future broadcasts." Yet through a spokesman, "SNL" Executive Producer Lorne Michaels said that "as far as I'm concerned, it's still under discussion." Ms. Weinman is away this week and unavailable for comment. NBC spokeswoman Shirley Powell said: "NBC's intention was to not air the sketch again. However, we currently have it under review." Foxman said he hoped Ms. Weinman's decision stands. "Hopefully the next time a skit like this is prepared they will have more sensitivity," he said. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 18:32:57 EST From: JavaHo@aol.com Subject: Re: Omaha Happy Happenings Matt informs: << Anyway, GCE's Holiday party is tonight, and guess who's coming to town to play it?
