Michael Crichton is, though. Grrrr.... For what it's worth, Jane spoke to Martin Johnson about her "Pilgrim" shows at the Bottom Line in NYC this weekend, as well as what one of two forthcoming CDs will have: "It's a collection of my favorite old songs...It started out being Celtic, even though my background is more Welsh and Scottish, but I wanted to include a lot of hymns and stuff. And so it turned into a mix of American spirituals and Celtic songs." The other CD will be a collaboration with Sotoma Takafuma of Japan. Johnson spent a lot of his piece on Jane's career and her running Sheeba - - which will be getting a copy of the article ASAP. Maybe Jane could ask _Newsday_ if it's OK to post it on _her_ website...? ^.~ Philip David (keep that Crichton novel away from me) 12/2/1999 - --- http://dianewolkstein.com/ http://members.dencity.com/SakuraNation/ - --- "A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place, so I sing songs about going to the convenience store." - - Jane Siberry, talking to _Newsday_ writer Martin Johnson. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Dec 1999 04:27:28 -0800 (PST) From: anna maria "stjärnell" Subject: Cd for sale/trade and Margot Smith wanted Hi.. I didn't have anything to add to this thread because you people did such a great job covering it, but then riding home from work last night, listening to my cassette player, I remembered a beautiful song that features the sea quite prominently. It's one of my favorite songs of the moment... really beautiful. It's called MARIANNA CAME TO by Deanna Kirk, and it has some gorgeous sea imagery, as well as a lovely acoustic guitar intro. Ok, I got the locations for both concerts and the time for the concert i Utrecht - You'll find them at Stairway To Heaven in Utrecht on 10th December and at Paradiso in Amsterdam on 11th December. The concert in Utrecht is at 16.00, and is considered more as a warmup to the Amsterdam concert the day after. In Amsterdam they are a part of the Voice from London festival, but I don't have any info on what time they'll play (I assume it will be later than the Utrecht concert at least). I highly recommend to go see them!! If you want some more information about the band and a some soundclips, then you'll find that at their webpage at www.velvetbelly.com . Another small thing : I just got a mail from my source in BMG, who wondered if you living in Netherlands could ask for Velvet Belly next time you visit your local store. Dino Music / BMG Nethelands are the ones to contact if the people at the stores wonder. That would be very helpful. They are out in Netherlands, but not all the stores react very fast kinda like :) *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Dec 1999 16:16:21 -0500 (EST) From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: A belated entry to the Sea Songs... What does CDNow, Towers, Borders, etc. charge? How about independents? Also it probably cost them more to deal with individual artists as opposed to distributors. The sad reality is lesser known artists with small followings not only sell fewer but get less per CD to boot. I heard a while back that David Bowie was worth almost a billion ($US). Of course even if such cuts are justified it doesn't mean that they aren't outrageous. :( Ken "Scott S. Zimmerman" wrote: > That's true, as far as I can tell. Then again, I'm a sucker for endless manic piano playing shots, which my local paper complained about. I was more distracted by the rambling and disjointed nature of the storytelling. However, there is one amazing sequence (a piano loose in a storm) that's worth the price of admision alone. Plus, there is a really nice Roger Waters song on the closing credits that sounds like an outtake from The Final Cut. Felicia's Journey - This uses Kate's The Sensuous World a number of times. There is also some Irish woman who has an amazingly clear voice singing over very sparse accompaniment. Does anyone know who this is? I missed it in the credits and thought she was definitely worth listening too. The voice was purer, without that sometimes thin or reedy quality of a lot of the traditional Irish singers, and it didn't sound like anyone I knew.
