Luckily (for him) he declined Mr. N's kind offer of coffee and lived to tell the tale. BTW whats everyones opinion of the new Eurythmics album. I got it the other day and its really growing on me. I'm more relieved than anything. There's always a danger with a comeback that they're either a) crap b) a retread of the old material or c) both!! t. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 09:17:56 -0700 From: Jack Sutton Subject: artist? Hi, I received the message below, anybody got a clue on this one? Jack Sutton Harmony Ridge Music www.hrmusic.com Hello! I am desperately searching for the name of an incredible artist. I have a cassette recording of her that is about 15 years old and is not marked - - I know very little about her. She sings a bit like Ani Difranco, and plays guitar also. She has a celtic influence in her music. On the tape is a song called "Margret", and another that is about the story of Mary and Joeseph. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 14:13:02 -0400 From: "glenn mcdonald" Subject: Re: artist? > Hello! I couldn't find anything called "Margret", so I tried a bunch of variations ("Margaret", "Lady Margaret", etc.), but didn't come up with any good theories. That album has a ballad about someone called Margaret and ends with a rather nasty song about Mary and Joseph. There are also some quite delightful rude songs ("Nine Times a Night"), a version of the Prince Heathen ballad, and a song about being a female engineer. Almost all the songs are strongly feminist. As far as I know it was only released on vinyl. I also only have a cassette recording. The album is, I think, closer to 20 or more years old. The Ani similarity is that she does a kind of shouting and singing at the same time that Ani occasionally does. - --Neile - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Neile Graham ...... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ....... neile@sff.net Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal . http://www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ....... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 17:22:27 -0400 From: Mark Miazga Subject: Re: artist? Jill Sobule has a song called "Margaret," but isn't exactly Celtic, isn't much like Ani DiFranco, and isn't an unknown. But she has been around for a while (she's in her late thirties), so having a 15-year old tape of her is a distant possibility. That's my only guess. glenn mcdonald wrote: > > Hello! A while back I heard her on...Leno, I'm pretty sure, doing "Down So Long." I wasn't overly taken with the rendition -- there was a little too much of the "I'm too cool to actually sing the words, so I'll just sort of half-sing-half-scat them" thing going on, but I was just _struck_ by how amazing she sounded. She was clearly having fun, and she kept hitting and holding these notes that knocked my socks off for their intensity more than their clarity. It really brought back why I'd loved her so much almost 5 years ago... jeff ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 15:14:53 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Re: artist?
