Was wondering if anyone has heard the faboulous Diane Izzo? Her album One reminds me of Patti Smith a bit but one track Venice is eerily like Katell Keineg.Overall its very varied and strong and highly recommended if you like the fiercly beautiful side of ecto. Am very eager to order Sarah Slean's album but dont have credit card so it's a bit tricky..Could anyone help with this and maybe do a trade with me? For some unknown reason my friend responded to this with a, "Oh, great, next thing I know you're going to be quoting Happy Rhodes lyrics at me too." (he said this in part because Happy was one of the more obscure people he could think of, and perhaps also because I am extrememly likely to quote lyrics at the drop of a pin, and I often choose Smiths/Morrissey and/or Happy Rhodes stuff) The new beau responded with a quote from "Ode" -- which is probably Chris' favorite non-MWABT Happy Rhodes song. The new beau has apparently never been an ectophile or love-hound, and he lives in Chicago; I'm not really sure how he heard of Happy (it wouldn't be all that surprising if he lived in upstate NY or Philly...) Anyway. *I* found it amusing. Hope it didn't bore you. ;-) jeff - -- |Jeffrey C. Well, it's not really at all about music, but I thought you guys might know something about this, being this-kinda-ish minded. I'm looking to get some acupuncture work done. I live in Reno, NV. I dont' think I've ever heard, through anyone, of anyone decent or recommendable up this aways. If anyone knows basically anyone in CA who can refer me to someone close-ish, I would be much appreciative. Hope this wasn't too off-the-wall for this list. I've been listening > to _Lamb_ quite a lot ever since Neile wore me down with her constant > endorsements, and now that _Fear of Fours_ is out I still prefer to > listen to _Lamb_. For me I think the reason is mainly Lou's changed > vocal stylings... sometimes change is bad. > Until you hear her do this live as I did this summer, and blow you (and about 1000 other people) away totally. It is not only her, but the whole band rocks (with the bass player being the best thing :) - just the small thing during the presentation of the bandmembers by Lou where both the trumpet player and bass player do solos but the drummer just walks up to the drumset and hits the cymbal once and that's it (everyone was expected some spectacular after the other solos :). I for one love both albums as much. It might be that her vocals will change back as she did have a baby just infront of this album - or was she pregnant while doing the album? That could have been the reason why her voice changed in the first place. *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Sep 1999 00:46:18 -0400 From: neal copperman Subject: bitchin babes Ok, so I don't require much encouragement to go to a concert, and I went out to see the Four Bitchin Babes in Annapolis. This was my 3rd time seeing them, though the first with Camille West. My general feeling was that they can't keep up the natural zaniness that Christine Lavin brings to the show, but it was still a fun evening. Pretty much everyone had some standout moments, but it got off to a pretty slow start (and I'm not sure it was really worth $20). Debbi Smith - Sherilyn said she was kind of boring, and I'd have to agree. However, one of my friends ran out at the break and immediately bought her disc, saying she was his favorite. So she was certainly winning over some people. The first half of the show was on the slow side, and she didn't impress me at all until she closed out the set with a rousing number about her ideal man (who would be an exquisite chef), accompanying herself with some pretty exciting bodhran playing. (More bodhran seems to be a constant chant of mine.) She was much stronger in the second half, playing a strange Italian opera number and a few other, stronger songs. Sally Fingerett - Sally has always been one of my favorite babes, and one of the few whose discs I buy. I was pleased to note that her first album has been re-released and that she has a new album, which I did not pick up. Her set wasn't as strong as usual, but she still played a number of poignant, moving songs with her usual stirring emotions and detailed lyrics. Plus, she had the most embaressing joke of the evening (probably no one should ever have said they were "roadkill on the information superhighway", but certainly it shouldn't be said NOW.) Megan McDonough - I never warm to her, and think her role as sort of the "leader" of the babes is really their death knell. Techinically, she probably has the strongest voice, but she seems really kean on singing sappy songs in a Broadway show style which really does nothing for me. She said she played Patsy Cline in a production somewhere, and it was so hard for me to imagine her bringing to life songs the way PC could. Camille West - Ok, so she really is drop dead funny. Endless streams of double entendres and amusing observations. I doubt I'd want to listen to a disc too many times, but it made for a very lively performance. And while I usually would take the mention of Viagra by a comedian as a prime time to go to the bathroom, she managed to write a pretty baudy song on the subject that was entertaining throughout. Her and Sally Fingerett doing an endless stream of Jewish American Princess impressions were something I would definitely cut out of their show. So, a mixed bag, Highlights were around, but not enough to merit the price. neal np: living room 16 - cindy lee berryhill (see bob, I did break down and buy it after our conversations) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1999 20:52:32 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: New venue for ScAvengers NYC show!
