Interestingly enough, the only time I saw Paula live was at the 1997 Lilith Fair main stage at PNC Bank in NJ where she was followed by... Fiona Apple. I thought both were energetic, spontaneous, and seemed to feed and feed off of the audience. And I love all 3 of their albums. What is Fiona doing lately anyway? I think on her website it said something about her doing a song for some movie, but I don't rememeber what or when or if that's someone else I'm thinking of. Goes along with the Joan Osborne thread of people I'm missing new music from. Not many people paid attention to her at that time. All of a sudden with "This Fire," she was huge and being played every time I turned on the radio. It's such a thrill when someone you like and who you think has a lot of artistic credibility "makes it." I wish it would happen to some of my other favorite artists. I eagerly await her next CD. I don't care if it has nine tracks or 11 tracks. I remember hearing an interview with her in which she talked about how much singing with the black gospel choir at Berklee had influenced her. Maybe this is the album she's been looking forward to making after proving herself in other ways. - --Valerie Richardson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Aug 1999 11:00:37 +1000 From: "Martin G Bridges" Subject: Cataloguing CDs Hi folks, Since there's such a cnfluence of large CD collections and computer-minded people around here, I wondered if anyone had come across a good software package (either home-made or commercial) for cataloguing a CD collection? I'm thinking of knocking something together in Access but if something already exists, I'm all for being lazy! Whatever it is, it has to be easy to use as I tend not to update anything that requires significant time to maintain. Also, if whoever posted about the alternative to jewel boxes could drop me a note (privately) I'd be most grateful as I deleted the message by mistake! Thanks, Martin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 1999 18:15:58 -0700 (PDT) From: Bill Subject: Re: Cataloguing CDs Martin: I keep a catalogue of my CD collection by way of the CD player application in my computer; every time I play a CD it looks up CD information (artist, title, track titles and times, and extended info) in the CDDB database via the Internet. And, to view my catalogue, I have developed some software that takes the CD database from my player application and builds Web pages of my CD collection. While the pages are not a "true" cataloguing system, I like being able to look up my CD collection as part of my Web pages. You can check out my CD catalogue at: http://www.wagill.com/bill/cd/ For a pretty large collection of CD player applications, plus CD cataloguing applications, for MS Windows, you can check out: http://www.winfiles.com/ And, finally, MS Access does come with a sample CD catalogue application, which, while not the best, is not too bad either (if you are willing to live with "demo" software). Hope this helps. - - Bill.
