I pride myself on being one of the biggest Oct.Proj. there is, when the band broke up i went a might skitzo (sp) and to hear that Emil Adler was putting together a bunch of people together and has the audacity to call it "October Project" i was sickened by the idea. How dare he do that?? what, does he think that he was what the band was all about?? so what if he formed the band... Mary, and Marina, and not to mention Poor Dave Sabitino are the ones who made that band Great. To Use the name October Project, is wrong... it's over, he should move on and pick a new name. If any real Octoer project goes to that show... I think they should be ashamed of themselvs. (I'm sorry, but it's true) i can't believe he (Emil) did that!!! it breaks my heart... ~Renee ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 09:40:32 +1000 From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Re: 10 list 10 and someother stuff Hey, Paul "I am not your brother" Kim said: >Patty Larkin has switched labels. Ani's understanding of words is far above and beyond Jewel's understanding of words, in my opinion... Jewel can occasionally pull off a deft turn-of-phrase, but for Ani, deft turns-of-phrase are what she relies on in between sparks of absolute brilliant genius writing. Ani understands tones and textures, she understands conceptual things like the difference between (and this is one example among thousands) "accept and get by" and "acceptance and getting by", there are worlds of difference between the two, and she gets it. That's one of the main reasons I'm so preoccupied with her... she's just brilliant brilliant... Jewel is capable of goodness, certainly, but come on... some of her lyrics plop to the floor with an audible thump. And Ani's are too busy soaring around in her brain and the clouds or something to notice silly little Jewel with her metronome-guitar and her (k)night without armor. But then, this is all just me, and me ranting, at that... sorry if I've smashed anybody's toes off, but I feel very strongly about the subject. ;D John === ain't no way i lost this war and ain't no way you won _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In this week's Entertainment Weekly, they mentioned it in a blurb, and mentioned Jewel's best-selling book as well (in addition to upcoming poetry books by Tupac Shakur and another rapper). The quote: "And we thought it couldn't get any verse." Personally, I don't think Jewel's poetry book was that bad -- there were some nice works there, though overall there were quite a few cliches and platitudes. My problem is that Jewel should have been recording a stunning followup to "Pieces of You" instead of releasing and promoting a mediocre book of poetry. Instead, she waited another couple years and released the horrid "Spirit". I think Ani's book could be quite good, and she's someone I actually think should release *less* music (I think "Up^6" was a huge comedown from "Little Plastic Castle"). Plus, most of her songs read like fine poetry anyway (I've used "Both Hands" in a poetry project for school once). Of course, then there's the whole "Why do pop stars get to release poetry books and (insert a struggling author here) doesn't?" argument, which is another story all together... - --Mark - -- Mark Miazga e-mail: miazgama@pilot.msu.edu 143 West Akers Hall, MSU East Lansing, MI 48825 (517) 355-4936 http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama Program Coordinator of The Common Grounds Coffeehouse.
