Honey was included in the beautiful UK digipak issue of Pretty Good Year. It was a 2-parter, issued over 2 weeks. The Digipak contained Disc 1, tracks are: Pretty Good Year, Home On The Range (with Cherokee addition) and Daisy dead petals. Disc 2 in a standard jewelcase contained PGY, Black Swan and Honey. The lyrics for Honey appear in the centre of the fold-out digipak, alongside a beautiful photo of Tori standing in a doorway. I don't know how easy it will be to get either disc or even the complete digipak now. The catalogue numbers are: A7263CDX (disc 1) A7263CD (disc 2) Hope the above is helpful to you. I've been hearing songs on the radio that make me think that perhaps there has been a new Siousie and the Banshees CD, even though I know they are no more. Today a web search for a lyric fragment guided me to the band's name: No Doubt. Anyone have info about them? They're a little on the repetitive pop-y side, but to me the lead singer does sound like Siousie Sioux.... - -Ken ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 1999 10:15:08 -0400 From: "Foghorn J Fornorn" Subject: Humorous band names Probably as good a topic as any for a summer diversion, apologies if it's come up before. I received a news email from the Maryland band Crack the Sky which announced, among other things, an album by their bass player, Carey Ziegler, and his side band. Hunh. I wouldn't have thought it possible for someone to have not heard of this band. They were huge in the midst of the ska revival a few year ago, with their fabu album _Tragic Kingdom_. Lead singer Gwen Stefani was splashed _everywhere_ throughout the media. Their monstrous cross-over hit was the ballad "Don't Speak" but they also had major hits with "Just a Girl," and "Spiderwebs" as well as some other tracks from that album. Erm, they're from Anaheim, CA, had an album or two before _Tragic Kingdom_ (which I think got re-released after that one hit it big), and had a single I was hearing a couple of months ago; I thought there was a new album out, but perhaps it hasn't been released yet? jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 1999 11:34:37 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: since you've been so helpful, another question Hi again, First, thank you to all who answered my Tori question regarding "Honey". Let me elaborate & see if your collective knowledge can help me even more with this. Does anyone know what the acronym "GUS" may stand for in relation to Tori's producer Eric Rosse around the time period (or shortly before) that "Honey" b-side was originally being released (1994)? I'm assuming "GUS" is either an artists name or an acronym for a band name that's eluding me, produced by Eric Rosse. The music is somewhat psychedelic/acoustic with heavy rhythm section (bass particularly), if that description helps any. It's a male vocalist on the recordings & his voice is sometimes reminiscent of Donovan & his music circa his late 60's more electric stuff. If any of this is ringing a bell in your memories, please let me know what you think. Again, please reply privately too, so I see your reply asap. Thanks again! It may be possible that you heard something by The Creatures, which was formerly a side project for Siouxsie and Budgie and is now full time with the demise of the Banshees. They have a new album, "Anima Animus" which is excellent, as well as a couple of other releases. Off hand I can't think of a lyric that appears from both The Creatures and No Doubt, although it's certainly possible there is one. Anyway, just another possibility to consider. - Larne ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 18:45:31 +0200 From: Leon van Stuivenberg Subject: Re: sarah slean update? meredith wrote: > > According to Sarah Slean's web site, her album has been pushed back to > "August 1999". (It never showed up in my mailbox, but I assume it went to the list, nevertheless -- A copy is at the end of this message just in case) I found the info I wanted on the NPR homepage. It was on the program "All Things Considered". Here's the short blurb about the segment: "Charles de Ledesma reviews a new CD from Egyptian singer Natasha Atlas, called "Gedida". She lived in Britain for a number of years, performing with the band Transglobal Underground. Now she's moved back to Cairo, and is integrating Egypt's indigenous music into her own brand of Western dance music." The full piece can be heard via Real Audio at: http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/atcupdates/19990707.atcupdates.04.ram I found the CD at Music Blvd, but it's listed under Natacha Atlas, while the NPR page lists it as Natasha Atlas. I'm off to order the CD... (Here's what I wrote this a.m. in case it never made it) Yesterday I was listening to NPR and they had a quick segment about a female artist -- I believe she's from Egypt. Her last name I remember was Atlas, but that's all I can retrieve from my too-full buffers. The music was kind of a fusion of western dance/pop sounds with the more traditional (Egyptian?) singing style. Anyone have any clues on her full name, or any other info? I think I heard enough on the short segment to want to get her CD! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 1999 18:12:58 -0500 From: jjh969@juno.com Subject: Re: Tori B-side question Pat, I have an original vinyl copy and a boot cd. Haven't had my turntable set up in a long while but since it's only available these days as a boot, unless you want to lay down the long green I wouldn't mind dubbing you a copy. A couple of years back I read legitimate copies were going for over $ 150.00 on vinyl, and even more for legitimate cd's. The reason legitimate cd's fetch so much is that Tori was at one point so distressed that it was out there that she had all the remaining copies yanked from the shelves. (actually she had them yanked from the cut-out bins) ;-) Alanis M did the same thing on a couple of early Canadian releases of hers. Alanis' stuff eventually did get re-released, whether or not those re-releases were sanctioned or not I don't know. Tori seems to have softened her position somewhat in that she has performed some of the cuts in her live shows, but I doubt that the whole disc will ever make it back to the shelves, at least in it's original form. The cover art's a pissa. I can see where the whole thing would be an embarrassment to her with the image she trying to send out. If you'd like a copy e-mail me a snail mail url off list and let me know if you want it on cassette, dat or mini-disc. John (who actually like it for the most part) n.p.
