MARK KOZELEK who basically is the RHP is kinda in LABEL limbo at the moment. after being dropped by 4AD and releasing SONGS FOR A BLUE GUITAR on JOHN HUGHES' label SUPREME, he sort of went bankrupt and the IRS came and collected all his worldly goods, including his guitar collection, for back taxes. MARK embarced on a sort of "lets play some random shows here and there with rented guitars to get some money to get my REAL guitars" tour playing here and there. i saw him way back last fall when this happened, and he debuted a bunch of new stuff as well, stuff that is on slated to be on the new album. SUPREME was bought out by UNIVERSAL which was bought out i think by another company. well basically, SEAGRAM'S owns the label that MARK is on. at least that is what he bitterly joked about on stage, and that is what i remember reading, when i got a hold of the SEAGRAM's annual report a couple of years ago (how they were buying and merging with a bunch of entertainment heavyweights). SO basically MARK and RHP are in limbo right now, and the record is due to be released when ever his label gets around to it. ie. no concrete release date. but rumors say AUGUST. oh yeah, and the new album is called OLD RAMON. apparently really recently, MARK was recording some stuff in sweden with someone from the CARDIGANS. MARK turning out TWEE music? i dunno about that (though i guess the new CARDIGANS album isn't all that TWEE)... in the meanwhile though, sometime in JULY i hear (again those VAGUE rumors) that 4AD is releasing a "best of" 2CD set of stuff. disc one will be previously released tracks, disc two is outtakes and demos. of course the official 4AD website has none of this information listed, so i dunno how accurate it is... for more rumors and such, hit the official RED HOUSE PAINTERS website, a quite nicely design site, i might add. http://www.kdesigns.com/rhp/ that is all oh yeah, i didn't even know anything about the ECTO compilations, but if i were to throw in my two cents, i would want to coin a phrase ala veronica (hi veronica! are you still living in maryland?) and use it for the title. something like ECTOPHONIC or some such. or is that stupid? of course i have a habit of coming up with random descriptive words just by adding suffix like -phonic or -licious haphazardly. like this "the new CD mix i just made is quite ECTOLICIOUS. it features both BETH ORTON and LAMB on it." irvin "asianlicious" lin ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #215 **************************
