Hi-- Just bopped over to the Samson site for amusement value, and was overjoyed to see that they have a marquee on the site stating "Happy Rhodes Back Catalogue now available from our online store." The press release about it is the first item on their news page as well. Good to see they're finally paying her some attention. The discs are running $13.98 each, and look like they have original artwork. Rhodes I and II are not listed, as Kevin B. stated in his post. Amusing note: the release says something along the lines of "we have been getting a lot of requests for Happy's back catalogue--apparently even some of her most devoted fans don't have the entire collection..." :) Another amusing note: they are also selling the soundtrack to 8mm, a film which featured an actress I have worked with by the name of Amy Morton. (She's really quite good, and a fantastic person. Just made her debut as a director on a show that's currently running in our studio space.) Ironically, since I've worked with Amy Morton, who has worked with Nicolas Cage, who has worked with Kevin Bacon, I am now less than six degrees away from Kevin Bacon. Scary, eh? Of course, if you look at it another way, Happy Rhodes is being produced by the same label that produced the soundtrack to Nicolas Cage's movie, so to some extent she herself is also less than six degrees away. :) - --Kay np: Arcane (RealWorld, with a Siberry track. I don't see any indication that Heather Nova doesn't have anything to do with it (though there wouldn't be anything like that on the disc anyway). Is there anything other than your dislike of it that leads you to that conclusion. I enjoy listening to it myself, and don't find it so divorced from her other recordings. It's very clearly Heather Nova, though the songs are much folkier than her later stuff. It's not what I'd give anyone to win them over to Heather Nova, but if you already like her and are the kind of person that likes to listen to earlier, less mature work of artists you like, I don't think you'll be disappointed. neal np: Suddenly, Tammy! - Suddenly, Tammy! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1999 15:34:53 -0500 (CDT) From: kerrywhite@webtv.net (kerry white) Subject: clip-ons?? I'm actually pretty sure that it was re-released with her blessing, and to the great applause of the fans who previously had to pay serious money for the extremely rare copies of the original vinyl. And while naturally everyone is entitled to their opinion, I have to say I'm a bit suprised because I really like this record. As for quality of the recording, it might not the greatest, but it is adequate for simple one-voice, one-guitar songs. Then again, I'm the one who always insists that over-production is the greatest sin of her more recent releases, so don't take me too seriously... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 00:48:52 -0400 From: "Joanna M.
