Unless you're sending your CD-R to a really old mastering plant or something. You can still make CDs with no audible inter-track gaps. Making CD-R compilations is fun. I made a groovy 80s compilation of old vinyl the other week by digitizing some of my old records. Also transferred Virginia Astley's Hope in a Darkened Heart to CD-R. Yeah, it's violating the letter of copyright law but since I don't use my turntable anymore, and since many of the records aren't available on CD anyway I feel justified in my terrible crime. Avoiding the purchase of gasoline on the thirtieth--but not on the twenty-ninth or the first--will, as you point out, be entirely ineffectual. I have little doubt that the gross volume of gas bought and sold that week will differ very little from that of any other week. A day of non-consumption, however, would make a great deal more difference. But I still disagree with the principle behind the boycott. I'm curious, LT, where this boycott originates? It seems pretty ill-thought-out all around. - --Charley _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Colorado already is in the top five or so for the highest gasoline taxes in the nation. I paid $4.50/gallon in England last month. Is it any wonder that public transportation is better there? Yes, I know folks there complain about public transport, but at least there is some! The public transport almost doesn't exist in this state, except for the larger cities, and even then, it's not very good. > > Since there are some of us who are all in favor of pure self-centered > greed, we'll just go on complaining... The soundtrack, in MY opinion, is ok. There are some cool moments on it, but it didn't really do much for me over all. I must admit however, (as much of a Happy, Kate, Debussey, etc. fan that I am...) the Rage Against the Machine track is pretty "Step aside." (- I'll probably get slammed for that, but......) Also.... I ran into this a while back. I have one cd-rom and one cd-r drive, and neither one would read the source disk, and although both would play the music just fine, they would both gag when asked to extract the data. I guess I had a case of SCMS that needed a band-aid. So DAE was not an option. I found I could take the analog signal from another CD player (even from the front jack on the cd-rom), and feed it back in via the sound card, and get the .wav's that way. I know, some would curse me, but my relatively delicate ears couldn't tell the difference between source and copy, even on a proper playback system. Re DAO, I know some would again curse me, but my Mitsumi is physically incapable, I've done lots of trading, and nobody's complained yet. So don't let it scare you. But this is something that those who are considering buying cd-r(w) now should ensure is available in the new hardware. On a nicer note, I see today that there are going to be TWO new Over the Rhine albums released next week, but just at shows or by mail order. I know. I wrote the forecasting algorithm used by the world's largest gasoline producing company. The abberation in the gasoline consumption for the day will not be noticed.
