Ricardo, you probably know by now that this list in not all about Happy. It started that way many moons ago but even Happy encouraged us to talk about other artists. So this is in no way a "pure Happy" list. This week we might talk about Tori Amos, next week it might be Ani DiFranco. I guess this all depends on how much you listen to or like other "ecto-like" artists and want to chip in. There's a good portion of us who are *always* happy to talk Happy. So go for it and start a thread! - --Suzanne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 13:42:37 -0800 From: Neile Graham Subject: Re: How do you get Happy in Canada? I'd also be interested in knowing which 3 discs you have and what you think of them, particularly if they're from a wide range of her career so far--meaning do you like her acoustic side? Her more electronic side like Many Worlds Are Born Tonight? My favourite album is still Warpaint, but I love Many World probably second best now. I love all of them, though. We were listening to ecto earlier this morning, which reminded me how wonderful that album is. And I like the songs that were added to the cd after the tape; I think "When the Rain Came Down" is a stunning track! As far as the list being all about Tori Amos since you've been subscribed, well, hang on, that will change. This list ranges all over, but its main star is Happy. - --Neile - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Neile Graham ...... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ....... neile@sff.net Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal . http://www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ....... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 13:08:58 -0600 From: "Mickey Ferguson" Subject: Re: How do you get Happy in Canada? Hello Ecto! I just thought I'd add my own datapoint to this thread. I bought my first Happy Rhodes CD (MWABT) last November, much like Patrick. This was after a friend in Ann Arbor sent me a couple of songs off of "Warpaint" in a tape-tree. I was overwhelmed and a bit amazed that I'd gone so long without hearing this amazing artist. I've been a Kate Bush fanatic since 1984, and I was at least *familiar* with Ecto through the Siblings mailing list. It only took those two songs, "Words Weren't Meant for Cowards" and "Warpaint" to make me a convert! ;-) On topic, I recently found the funds to try and find the rest of Happy's catalog. Last week I received a partial shipment from Borders Books & Music. They had *Equipoise* and *Rhodes II* in stock. *Rhodes I* , *Ecto* & *Warpaint* were listed, but not shipped, which pretty much means forget about it. Now, I'm wondering if the outlet in West Chester, Pennsylvania has any more Happy CD's left .... I want to give kudos to Patrick Moseley for such lucid reviews and opinions on Happy's music. His review, in particular, of Rhodes II, drove me to increase my collection. Ranked by most-played (and at the moment): - ---The songs from *Warpaint* --- this must be my next acquisition! ;-) - ---Equipoise - ---Rhodes II - ---Many Worlds Are Born Tonight I'm almost embarrassed about it, but that's the extent of my Happy Rhodes collection, mid-March 1999. Comic Relief did a spoof in the most recent edition in the UK, the first part of which is online via RealVideo at . It stars Jonathan Pryce as The Master, Rowan Atkinson as the Doctor, and Julia Sawalha (yes, Saffy :) as his latest companion. Apparently Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders showed up later, but they're not in the part that's online, alas. Rumor has it the whole thing will be out on video later this year, hopefully with an NTSC version, because I *need* to see the whole thing. Anyway, enjoy. It's hilarious. :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY: the Veda Hille mailing list *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 23:26:14 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: Sleater-Kinney on Addicted To Noise Hi all, Those of you who are Sleater-Kinney fans, and those of you who are just curious, should check out the March issue of Addicted To Noise ( http://www.addict.com/ ) for their cover story there, which includes RealVideo clips of S-K live, RealAudio clips of ATN's interview with the band, RealAudio clips of their music (mostly from their newest album, _The Hot Rock_), and a long article/interview. Hi, What was up with Peter Gabriel's head? He's definitely one guy who looks better with a full head of hair. But, on to more serious stuff. Several people brought it to my attention that I had been infected with a virus, or rather, worm (as in the computer type), and it subsequently went out with a message I posted to Ecto (Re: Tori Videos I believe). For those who haven't figured it out yet, here's a pretty good explanation and solution, offered up by none other than woj: - ----- it appears that you've been infected with the happy99.exe worm. wehn you last posted to the list, a separate message containing the worm was also posted unbeknownst to you (that's it's modus operandi). fortunately, all smoe lists are set up to detect the worm and bounce it, so we can't be used as a means of transmission. for more information about this worm and instructions to remove it from your system, point your favorite browser to: and Sorry guys, Mark npimh: various Oscar quips and speeches and fashion don'ts (Will Geena Davis just please stop?!)
