Out of curiosity, how many folks out there that do not as of yet have any live Happy are looking for some? I'm just wondering if ecto has managed to encourage enough new blood to make a request for a new tape tree a valid one. I know I for one am interested (and I have all of Happy's recordings...), and have seen at least two other people pipe up about being interested. A recording of one or two of Happy's shows would be a great learning experience for all of us new fans who haven't been able to see her live. (Figures, she starts touring finally and I've left the east coast for the first time in my life. Maybe she'll make it out to the midwest soon. Anybody from Samson hanging out on this list? Actually, considering the subject matter I'd really rather there weren't...) I'm not talking about the Prism tape--I know that's off limits, and I really honor Happy's wishes on that--I'm a fairly regular tape trader, but I try to avoid recordings that the artists themselves have expressed a dislike for. That doesn't mean I don't have them, I just don't trade them very often anymore. To avoid annoying people with a bunch of "me too" and "Yeah I'm interested" posts (we don't want to start another CD storage thread, now, do we? :) ), email me at kscleaves@juno.com if you are interested. Mind you, I do not have any recordings myself, I'm just kind of trying to put together a petition to take to the folks that do. - --Kay, the Queen of the Polls. np: The Bangles: How's the Air up there nr: Morning Star again. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Good to read that. I have a particular fondness for Spring as there seem to be so many wonderful festivals - Spring Equinox next on 21st; shortly after that Eostre, then Beltane. No wonder our ancestors held so many festivals and celebrations, Spring and all her beauty still takes my breath away after 40 Springtides. I've been looking forward to those shows for months. "Cataclysmic" is a pretty good word to describe their live show; the first time I saw them, at Meow Mix (a tiny Manhattan bar), it was one of my all-time concert experiences. Incidentally, the "Liz" in "Liz and Lisa [Loeb]" was Liz Mitchell, who now plays in Ida with Dan Littleton, who also plays with Jenny Toomey (of Tsunami) in Liquorice. Confused yet? I'd recommend Siddal's =The Pedestal= to anyone who has a taste for that kind of "Goth Lite" sound. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 15:44:38 EST From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: Fwd: Northern Sounds Showcase II This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --part0_921789879_boundary Content-ID: <0_921789879@inet_out.mail.aol.com.1> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII > -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- > | Northern Sounds Productions Presents | > | | > | | > | REBECCA TIMMONS & RAYANNE & JESSICA WEISER | > | | > | | > | A Songwriter Showcase | > | | > | | > | Sat March 27, 9:00pm | > | The Free Times Cafe | > | | > | 320 College St (2 blocks west of Spadina) | > | Toronto, ON 416-967-1078 | > | | > | Pay what you can | > | Info at: http://webhome.idirect.com/~nsounds/showcase/ | > | Or via email at: nsounds@bigfoot.com | > | | > -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- > > Rebecca Timmons is a local singer/songwriter/pianist with a confessional > bent. Pravatiner" Subject: St. Pat's: My spin WRT Richard's and Joe's accounts of how they observed the day: Mine was decidedly more nontraditional. I put Sinead O'Connor's _Universal Mother_ on my CD player as I dressed, having chosen it over the more traditional Irish sound of the Drovers. When I left the house, I noticed that most of the snow had given way to green grass, and thought of how appropriate the new color of the landscape was to the day. Come lunchtime, I went in search of my traditional St. Patrick's Day luncheon repast: a nontraditional spin on the traditional corned beef and cabbage, _viz._, a kosher corned beef sandwich on rye with a side of cole slaw--and a Watney's ale :-). After drawing a blank at a couple of restaurants, I found one that didn't have it on the menu in so many words, but did have reuben sandwiches, and indicated they would be happy to make me a regular corned beef. Apparently from force of habit, they made it on dark rye, with melted Swiss cheese. It was tasty enough at face value, but the cheese did compete somewhat with the flavor of the corned beef. They didn't have Watney's, Bass, or any other English ale, so I had a Kelly's Traditional Irish Hard Cider, made with Irish, English, and French apples. It was excellent. Afterward, I took in the Field Museum's "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit, and then went in search of the Watney's I had been unable to get before. I went to a restaurant and bar downtown that I go to sometimes, which didn't have corned beef on the menu at all. The only English ale they had was Newcastle Brown, so I had some of that, and it was superb. The guy next to me was having a green Budweiser, which reminded me once again of something I have long wondered about: Why anyone would celebrate the day with emerald-dyed Bud, when there are so many excellent authentic Irish brews available. Not to mention, why they give the same sort of dye job to the Chicago River, when its natural color so closely mimics that of that quintessentially Irish premium brew, Guinness Stout :-). Nontraditionalism can be fun :-). Mitch ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #102 **************************
