To my ear, Henry is one of the (if not _the_) most evocative guitarists playing now. No one can create a entire landscape of sound with just a guitar like Henry can. The Lanterna cd is amazing, and Henry's guitar work was one of the best things about both Area and The Moon Seven Times. Henry is one of the few instrumentalists that I can listen to and be wholly absorbed by without longing for vocals. Also among great bass players is Steve Bernal. His work on Ingrid Karklin's _Red Hand_ is stellar! (Tamar and I were talking about this at lunch today but I forgot to mention Henry!) - --Neile - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham ..... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ..... neile@sff.net The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music .... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 18:25:10 -0800 From: Neile Graham Subject: Some album info for the Ectophiles' Guide Hi, all-- I've had some requests from Ectophiles' Guide readers for us to get files up for particular artists for whom I have comments about albums, but not the basic album info. If someone willing to look at disc booklets and type up some info for me? I need album info for: Enigma Lisa Gerrard Patty Griffin Tara MacLean There are also blanks for the album info in these current files on the Guide: Maire Brennan's _Perfect Time_ & Misty-Eyed Aventures_ Sarah Brightman's _Dive_ & _Time to Say Goodbye_ Capercaillie's _Capercaillie_, _To The Moon_ & _Beautiful Wasteland_ Please email me if you have these discs and are willing to type for us. Thanks! - --Neile P.S. Also, if there is a group _you'd_ like to see on the Guide who isn't there yet, if you can provide this info it will speed up the process enormously. But please let me know who you'd like to do in advance to save duplication of effort! - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham ..... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ..... neile@sff.net The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music .... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 22:03:31 -0500 From: "Tom Ditto" Subject: re: Falwell outs Tinky Winky If you missed seeing Falwell Wednesday on _Politically Correct_ don't be upset. The program was disappointing. While the Tinky Winky outing was Topic One, it was quickly dismissed. Falwell back pedalled from the get go. By his account, he didn't know a thing about Teletubbies even as he defended a Falwellian publication that asserts Tinky Winky is a gay icon. The right reverend recounted that last Sunday he accepted as a gift "a full blown Tinky Winky" doll (yes, the quotes cover his exact turn of phrase) from his congregation -- a group that apparently does not share the notion that this terry cloth character for toddlers should be blanked from their TV screens. Mrs. Ditto has handed me two print publications of interest. In _Go Po Go_ the little red munchkin is clearly depicted muttering in Cantonese "fi-dit, fi-dit, fi-dit" for "speed up" and "mar, mar, mar" for "slow down" as he rides his scooter. Just because the audio on the web page sounds like "faggot, faggot, faggot" when his kicks his scooter faster should not be any reason to fear for our children. My gay friend, Rudie, had a good laugh when we showed him this Shockwave masterpiece. The other book is _Tinky Winky's Bag_. The boy's magic hand bag encompasses anything put inside of it, including Po's scooter. Obviously this is a very good gimmick for plot development, and in the future I expect some more episodes using the hand bag that might prove worthy of an Ernie Kovacs if not a Minnie Mouse. PS If you don't know who Ernie Kovacs was, drop me a backdoor eeee, and I'll extol him to you. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #61 *************************
