It's her second disc, and my least favorite of her four, but still loads of fun to listen to. I have a copy, but I know it's out of print, and couldn't just let it sit in the bins unclaimed. It cost me 4 bucks, and I'll be happy to send it to a good home for cost plus postage (or possibly a suitable trade). In other sorta similar news, I saw a used copy of THomas Dolby's Flat Earth, something else that I have that I thought was out of print. If there is anyone who has been searching for a copy of that, I'll be happy to go grab it for them. I think it was around $9. neal np: The Downs Family - drunk at the Casbah (2/4/94 - one of the oldest live recordings I made, contemporary with the old Jewel stuff. Sarah Slean song online (cross-posted to the canadian music list and ITW) Hiya folks, Here's you chance to hear a song from Sarah Slean's upcoming album: There is now a free, CD-quality MP3 version of Sarah Slean's "Twin Moon" available for download at http://www.sarahslean.com . Warning: this is the *whole* song, so it's a huge file, almost 5 MB. You'll need an MP3 player to be able to play it... which means all you folks who installed WinAmp for Vickie's shoutcast stuff will be able to play it. For those of you who didn't, it's available at http://www.winamp.com . MacAmp is available for those of you Mac people out there ( http://www.macamp.com ). There is also a RealAudio version at the site, but it's much lower quality, (your typical 28.8K mono streaming version). Let me know if you have any problems! And please spread the word wherever you think someone might be interested. Could someone post to one of the Tori lists for me? Thanks folks! First, I did not get to see Moxy Fruvous, so no report there. Maybe next time. I did catch Patti Smith at the Bowery Ballroom on Dec 30, though. And, without going into too much detail, let's just say that I could've died right after the show and I would've been content with my life. (Ok, maybe not. I still haven't seen Happy live :-{ It was Patti's birthday, and the guys brought out a birthday cake before the encore and we sang happy birthday. And gosh, she was in such a good mood. The show was amazing. I've never seen her before. I understand that in the recent past she hasn't performed older material (anyone know, is this true?). But she did "Seven Ways of Going," "Looking For You (I Was)" and "People Have the Power" along with stuff from _Peace and Noise_ and _Gone Again_. For encores, it was "Because the Night" and "Rock 'N Roll Nigger." And did I mention she was in an incredibly good mood? She read from her new poetry anthology, talked and joked with the audience and, well, just had fun. Great show. The trip was also great. My friend who saw Happy when she played there this year gave me the poster, which made me very happy. I saw a gazillion plays (I heartily recommed "Collected Stories," off-broadway and "Electra" on, and definitely "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," which I saw on my last trip there in September, but it's still the best thing I've seen theater-wise in a good while) and movies (recommendation: "Central Station") and hung out with friends in Williamsburg and Brooklyn Heights. New Year's Eve was a brief 15 minutes watching the fireworks from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Sure was cold. Thank goodness my friend lived one block away. Good to be back, even if I caught that bug that's been going around. It was bad enough to make me miss Susan Werner Friday night in Dallas, which I'm still upset about. Oh well. I'm going to see Vic Chesnutt Saturday night, which makes me happy again. Well, guess that's it for now. Mark n.p. Meg Hentges _Brompton's Cocktail_ : Just got a promo copy today. She used to be with Two Nice Girls. The annoying Jude plays bass on this record, but at least he's not singing. I'm kind of digging the album, but haven't listened to it enough to form a solid opinion. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1999 23:14:25 EST From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: new Ani Difranco thoughts?? I'm Bill Mazur and I just subscribed to the Ecto mailing list a few days ago. I only very recently came across the incredible music of Happy Rhodes. What an amazing discovery! I was fairly warned about the addictive nature of her music on the Ecto web site. Well I must admit to being completely enchanted and entranced by her music! Thank you to all of you Ectophiles out there for making her presence known on the web!!! I am really kind of surprised that I didn't run across Happy before this point. I have been on-line now for three years and spend a fair amount of time on the web and in some of the newsgroups. My predominant musical interests lie with the progressive rock genre. However, as a music lover and a musician, I appreciate most types of music. My extensive CD collection includes a good mix of classical, jazz, blues, 60s to 90s pop/rock, folk, celtic, world, new age, ambient and, of course, progressive rock music. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting music. Here are my top ten favorite artists of all time: 01) The Beatles 02) Peter Gabriel (w/Genesis and solo) 03) Yes 04) Marillion (both Fish and "h"ogarth era) 05) The Moody Blues 06) Camel 07) Pink Floyd 08) Kate Bush 09) Tori Amos 10) Sarah McLachlan Thanks, Bill Mazur wpm@value.net http://www.kmichaels.com n.p. You know, I wonder if it has something to do with the snow in Buffalo. I kept trying to phone Righteous Babe to preorder it, and never got anyone in the office. I was really confused because I was carefully phoning during their office hours until I remembered how bad the weather there had been. Anyway, I gave up and ordered it through Music Boulevard.
