Sub-bass electro thud, breathless Portishead-esque vocals, and an exquisite attention to detail make this rcord as good as it is. What is "Murder, Misery, and then Goodnight" > like? I didn't even see it released, when did it come out? MMG was a CD Kristen released last year. She and/or 4ad made it available only through internet music resellers; you can't buy it in stores. It's a 35 minute disc with 12 tracks, all folk tunes (appalachian, I believe), which Kristen heard as a child. Very, very sparse arrangements, mostly just Kristen and an acoustic guitar, though one of her children gets in on the act from time to time. Not everyone's cup of tea, to be sure, but worth hearing if you like her work... Incidentally, I left this off my top 10 list, but I also meant to give kudos to Kristin for her "Works in Progress" project, in which for $14.95, you get 12 demos/unreleased songs of hers in 44khz stereo mpeg format. She's makes 'em available one/month (approximately) and they're very cool. Check out throwingmusic.com jeff np: _Touch_, Sarah McLachlan - -- |Jeffrey C.
