I bought her next album, "Slow To Burn", but I was dismayed that Vanessa's own lyrical... hmm... "efforts", I'll call them... were *nothing* compared to the detailed, striking images that her voice evoked from Erica Jong. She has, however, recently come out with a new album, "Plutonium Glow", and though I have no knowledge of it other than the ad I saw in the magazine for it (she grew her hair out and it's curly now... she was better with the short Winona Ryder look, I thought), I somehow think the image "plutonium glow" is from either "Zipless" or "Slow To Burn". I was unsurprised to see that was the title, in any event. However, if it acutally is from "Zipless" and she's gone back to doing wonderful jazz to Erica Jong, then I'll celebrate... but if it's something she conjured up herself, then I'll leave the CD sitting there in the same store to which I brought back my copy of "Slow To Burn", which ended up rotting in obscurity on my CD rack. ;p Let's all pray... And I like Liz Phair's voice too. ;D She's one of the few female singers I can sing fully along to without straining my voice from over-stretching my upper register... I guess that's because she doesn't have any training or real virtuosity as far as voices themselves go. Bless the untrained, bless them! Anyhow... I'm off! Happy day! Milla CD? out of the shadowy depths comes a faint "footah!" i'm something like 16 months behind on my ecto reading, but a glitch (or was it a hint?) in my mail software brought this message to my attention: julesette wondered: > I heard Milla had a second album out, but can't find it anywhere. Was I > misled? well, yes and no... there is a recent album more or less attributed to that divine comedienne, but if you're looking for more of the same you'll be disappointed. the title is "MILLA JOVOVICH: the peopletree sessions", and it is a collaboration with the folks at peopletree . peopletree seems to be a fairly ambitious attempt to create new channels of creating and distributing music via new technology -- a goal to which your occasionally humble author likewise aspires. the actual music, however, is to my ears a fairly unfocused collection of technoid/ambient ideas with Milla mumbling in the background. you can listen to samples and remixes at the peopletree site: the actual CD is currently only available from the peopletree site, and is more tp the point temporarily out of stock, but i'll buy it anyway, because i want her to make more music...! hi and *hugs* to all here, and thanks to those who wrote on the event of the b'day. woj, i'll really truly write any minute now and get the old ecto archives packaged up for you -- they survived the Age of Great Disk Distasters intact, thank the various goddesses... since i've made this re-initial intro (if Fleetwood Mac and for heaven sakes Blondie can come back, well hey) i guess i should write up my '98 lists... Greetings all, it has been a few years since i participated; but i am back. some of you may remember me as tjshadb@ceti.csustan.edu or tjshadb@ecto.ca.sandia.gov but its still me, now at tjshadb@grin.net . what i've been doing for the four (!) years since departing, disappearing from the face of the earth, er, whatever... well, i worked for a couple of start-ups in Silicon Valley long enough to pile the money away to go to school full time for 2 years and come out of it as (get this) Dr. Troy Shadbolt. So, can I play doctor now? Well, if it's related to nuclear chemistry I can... I've kept up on Happy's activites as much as I could, considering the fact that I hardly ever got out of the lab for two years. Kept my collection up, and finally decided to come back here to the warm fuzzies of Ecto. I hope Vickie and the gang are still around; haven't seen many names I recognize, but that's okay. oh, and thanks for the birthday wishes.
