I don't remember too many details, but it was interesting to see how much the song changed throughout the recording process, if I remember correctly it started out as almost a ballad, and little by little they changed instruments, upped the tempo, added doot-doo's, and so. np: Justyna Steczkowska - Naga - -- +-----------------------------------------------------+ + dave + + irc.dal.net #Panic_Beach female music artist chat + + http://magpage.com/~sspan/ music clips/pics/links + +-----------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Jan 1999 16:53:31 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Re: Neal's CLB & Joy Questions answered In the recent Neal Copperman post-flood, I noticed these burning questions: <> CLB will soon begin recording her next studio album & as you know Neal, she has a very infectious stockpile of "keyboard written" pop songs. This next album will be the full blown "Garage Orchestra-like studio treatment" of those songs. I think the list of songs being considered include "Antarctica", "Family Tree", "Aquamarine", "Follow The Sun", "Victorville Beach", "This Way Up" (written with Steve Poltz), Eileen's Eyes (written with Stew of The Negro Problem), "Witness" & a few other possibilities I can't remember at the moment. Not sure about "She Won't Even Try", although I love that tune! Since its based on a Beach Boys tape-loop, I'm not sure its being considered. I know Cindy Lee played it for Brian Wilson, who said "It blew his mind". Also, I think she'll be recording in several different studios. I think Peter Buck (of REM) & Brian Wilson have both offered their studios among a few others that want to work with her. No release date yet. There's also an independant release from CLB of an early 1998 LRT duo gig with Renatta Bratt also coming out soon. I think in the next month or two. I don't have current details on that but will find out. This will be lots of fun but that next studio album is definately going to be another delicious leap forward for CLB! And you also asked: <> The first CD pressings of Joy Eden Harrison's new album just came in a few days ago. (I'm anxiously awaiting mine!) The album is called "Unspoken". This will be publicly released in February or March on her new label Astarte Records which is officially up & running now. She has distribution, but I think you'll be able to mail order direct soon. I'll post that info when they're ready to accept orders. Happy Rhodes, _Many Worlds Are Born Tonight_ : 'Nuff said Jill Anderson, _cool of the day_ : Yes, a local artist. It has been years since I have been excited with a local Omaha artist. Her take on traditional Irish tunes is wonderful, and she's such a sweetie. Plus her new "swing" work is awesome as well. Chris Stills, _100 Year Thing_ : I normally do not like the male, singing voice. However, Chris Stills is unique enough, plus his songwriting is good enough, to warrant a top spot from me. The Nields, _'mousse_ : Unlike Meredith, I like _Play_ and find it a little difficult to choose between the two. But like Meredith, I like the sequence she commented on. Sarah Slean, _Universe_ : Yes, I had the tape from last year, and although the CD is the same - plus two - she's on the rise, and is such a great songwriter it deserves a spot for this year. Shai nO Shai, _Human Condition_ : This is extremely unique, and I find I play it *almost* as much as MWABT. Joy Eden Harrison, pre-released new one (forgot the title) : I really like the cassette, and will probably pick up the CD when it becomes available. Wonderful jazz! Unfortunately, there was only one ecto concert I caught this year - heck, it was the *only* concert for this year :-( - and that was the Holly Cole/Chris Stills concert. Extremely excellent, though! Like you said, at various points he's danced around the subject and said he's bisexual, asexual, etc. Now he just doesn't talk about it at all. But he's most definitely not heterosexual. > Also, if I remember correctly, Hatful of Hollow was a collection of > singles, wasn't it? Not sure on that. Yep, it was a collection of mostly non-album singles culled by the record company, just like _The World Won't Listen_ and _Louder Than Bombs_. So, the band probably had no input on the sequence of tracks. Missed Evelyn (but not her new discs), but heard Susan twice when she came to Centerport and Commack, Long Island (and hope to come back to NYC for one of her shows there this year). I also found a practical medium in the MiniDisc. I did a lot of live (local/community) recording this year and expect to do more this year. So Borders and Tower will be losing some of my business (except when it comes to occasional anime and Tai Seng video buys).... And yes, I'm defintely an _otaku_. My two Ecto-faves: Susan's _Bushes & Briars_ and the _Peter and Wendy_ score CD. Happy's _MWABT_ came a close second. Bring on 1999. Just leave Prince (or whatever his name is now) out of it. And leave me some space for my binaural mics. Hey folks, so the weather outside is frightful (the worst snowstorm in Chicago in 20 years) but inside, Chris is bouncing with glee because of a new technology called Shoutcast. It lets one person at home transmit audio to one or a few people, or to a reflector, to send audio to a number of people. In real time. Really. Honestly. No kidding. (I know you can do that with Real Audio, but this one is free, easy to set up, works better, all that stuff.) To test, I took one of my old radio shows from Kansas City that I recorded onto VHS videotape, and played it. It's been running in a loop. Our friend Bruce in Kansas City heard it, other people around the country heard it too. This Suspended In Gaffa is about 9 years old. I was all giddy because I'd just bought a bunch of new releases, so I played bits from Kate's "The Sensual World," Jane's "Bound By The Beauty," Mary Margaret O'Hara's "Miss America," The Innocence Mission's first album, Wendy Wall, Penelope Houston, The Shakers, About 9 Times, and on and on and on and on. Still today it's one of my favorite shows. Want to hear it? You can if you have a sound card and the ability to play MP3. We've been able to feed 3 streams through our ISDN. We might not be able to handle more than that until we can go through a reflector. OK, this only makes any sense *tonight*. Next time we dial WWA, the IP number will be different. To listen to what we are broadcasting: Use an MP3 player that can play from a net address. WinAmp works (go http://www.winamp.com/) MacAmp works too (go http://www.macamp.com/) There's probably a Unix MP3 player, but we don't know what it might be called. In the player "play location". It is constructed just like any normal web URL: http://207.241.62.201:8000 (8000 is the port Shoutcast uses) That's it! For right now, I'm playing one of Aural Gratification's Ambient albums. I'll be putting the Suspended In Gaffa tape back on in a little while. It's 12:07am (CST). I don't know who might be out there who's also able to (or wants to) listen in, but we're just playing around, and who better to invite to listen in than Ectophiles? Once we get a reflector, there are all *kinds* of things I can play for those of you with the technology. Live Happy concerts, old radio interviews, my old radio shows. Maybe new radio shows. If anyone has any set-up problems, Chris will be in IRC channel #ecto on EFnet shortly and he can talk you through. We'll probably do this some more Sunday night. I'll post to Ecto again before we do it. This is so cool. Extremely!
