I ordered her cd directly from her and am very pleased with what I've heard. And here's what she sent out to her mailing list today (I apologize if any of this looks strange to non-AOL 4.0 users.....that's how Beth sent it): _______________ Beth Waters BethH20@aol.com Beth Waters will be playing at 330 Ritch St. In San Francisco on October 9th starting at 7:00pm. No cover to get in. Hope to see you all there, as you know the live performances are incredible and if you don't already have the CD you should definitely pick it up at Reckless Records on Height St. or several other locations listed on the Web Page. You can also listen to sound samples and read bios. IndyMusic.com has recently launched their new site allowing people to custom make their own CD's by simply dragging the song they want onto their playlist. Two of Beth Waters' songs from "Don't Look Back" are on the list. MTV online also recently reviewed Waters' CD comparing her to Natalie Merchant and Tara MacLean. You can check out the Review below. Hope you all can make it, See ya there! Recent review by MTV online BETH WATERS Don't Look Back BETH WATERS is causing a stir in the typically placid beach town of Santa Barbara. Her independently self-produced 4-track demo EP Don't Look Back has been making the rounds of the city's radio stations and has local critics comparing her to the likes of TORI AMOS and JEWEL. Being a strong advocate of the music of these two artists my interest in WATERS was immediately piqued. Upon initial hearings of the EP, WATERS' musicality and vocals are more suggestive to that of NATALIE MERCHANT or even newer artists like TARA MACLEAN. The youth in her voice is not a deterrent rather it's a testament to her raw talent. In a growing market of female twenty-somethings staking their claim on the top of the charts, there definitely is room for an artist like WATERS. The real delight here is "Needing To Be True" which indicates WATERS' ear for melody while maintaining lyrical, meaningful phrases as "I cast a shadow/It belongs to someone else/I'll give it back to you/And I'll do the things I want to do and go." The song features WATERS singing solo with a delicate piano arrangement reminiscent of 10,000 MANIACS' "How You've Grown." With a bit more orchestration, "Needing" is very much a song that fans of AMOS and MERCHANT can adhere to. Offering more structure and balance are "Cowardly Lion" and the title track "Don't Look Back." Her musicianship on the piano isn't as aggressive as it could be but the talent is undeniable. She really struts her stuff on the EP's final track - a piano instrumental entitled "Moving Thirds" that offers cinematic qualities. A&R people get your scouting hats on and make the trip up the coast to Santa Barbara because WATERS recently made the decision to permanently reside in San Francisco to further pursue her career. And for music enthusiasts always interested in finding "the next big thing," be sure to catch this rising talent before other artists start being compared to her. Thank you on everyone's behalf for following through and contacting people about this. I can't believe that sites that are there to help disadvantaged people get so inaccessible due to web designers forgetting that technology is evolving faster than people and institutions can afford, especially the people that these agencies are there to serve!
